My 86 K5 build

Went snow wheeling today. Went up to Sage Hen Reservoir. It was really foggy, but it was really fun. The snow was really wet and heavy, but we found some fun areas to play in. A buddy with a solid square body flatbed (TBI350/SM465/EcoBox205/Tons/40's...cool truck), and another guy with a really well built Cherokee all came.

First pic here is I installed my full doors and top for the weather. I installed that top by myself by pretty much just dead lifting it...stupid things are so freaking heavy

How you liking the Cummins?

Its a good truck. There are a bunch of little things that I need to get fixed that were neglected on this thing. But the overall core of it is pretty solid now. To be honest, when comparing to my 96 K2500 with the vortec 454...its a bit better overall towing than that truck, but it's not "way" better. I'm sure since my Cummins has some miles on it and is 100% bone stock (and I'm sure I have some boost leaks and small things here and there too), that is causing some hindrance to it, but it does pretty good. I'm not gonna do much to it now as all my focus is getting the 8.1 in the crew cab finally on the road. Maybe after that I'll throw some go-fast goodies at the Cummins

Got back last night from spending a week in Grand Junction, CO with my wife/kids, my brother and his wife and kids, and my parents. We spent 4 days riding dirt bikes, wheeling, and camping. It was about as much fun as you could have in a week. Kids loved riding bikes and hanging with their cousins. My two oldest boys learned how to ride dirt bikes without training wheels and they loved it.

As far as wheeling goes, on Wednesday we planned to hit Billings Canyon. Long story short, we made a wrong turn and never really hit the actual Billings Canyon trail, but we didn't realize what we did until a ways into the trail we were on. And by that time we didn't have enough time to turn around and hit it, so we just spent the day on a more scenic mild trail with the wife's and all the kids. So it actually worked out better. On the way back out we did find a fun playground to play on that had some nice rock ledges to climb around on.

On Friday we went and ran 21 Road Trail. I had heard about this trail for a long time, and man was it well worth the trip to run this trail. It was freaking awesome! Not only was it incredibly scenic, but it had really cool obstacles on it all the way from mild to wild with many different line choices to make it as hard as you wanted. I didn't get any pics of the good rock obstacles, but my brother got some video of the trail, so hopefully soon he can get some of the pics/vids he has uploaded and I will share those too. For anyone into wheeling, I think this trail should be a bucket list trail for sure! I did get some body damage at the top of the trail right after we turned around (see last pic), but to be honest, I probably could have avoided it, but I just muscled through the section. At this point, I'm starting to care less and less about what this truck looks like, it works pretty damn good for what it is though, haha

Great pics, love the ones of the kids riding - good times. I'm always amazed at the scenery of that part of the country, beautiful. :thumb:

that looks like a rad trail

It really is. You drive in a creek bed pretty much the entire trail. Down lower it's a bit mild, but as you continue to go up it gets more difficult. Towards the top when we turned around, there was stuff the comp buggies would struggle with. Even some of the lines we did had my brother and I working hard to get through, even with me on 42's and my brother on 47's. But even more mild rigs could get pretty far up in there and have plenty of fun, and amazing scenery to look at.

I wish I would have taken pics of the obstacles. Hoping my brother gets some of the video we took uploaded. I haven't seen the video yet, but I hope it does the obstacles justice...some were pretty legit

The trail you ended up on instead of Billings was probably Bangs Canyon. Spent lots of time playing in that playground area when my family was living in Junction and Delta. I don't think we ever drove much further down that trail so you've probably seen more of it than me. :rotfl:

Yep, that is exactly where we were. The trail isn't very difficult as you continue, but very scenic. Was actually cool since it was a bit mild, my brother and I let our Wife's drive our rigs for a while. They really seemed to like that. The playground area was pretty fun though. Some of the ledges were somewhat legit. We took some video of us going up some lines. Hopefully I can upload that soon

I've seen a few people break playing on those ledges which I think is some of the reason I haven't done much more of the trail. one time I lost a top shock bolt in the K5. With it being a long travel shock it was banging dents in the hood like hail damage only in the opposite direction. That's how I figured out what was going on, I was wondering how the dents got there.

If you live in Junction, it makes for an awesome place to do some trail testing.
