Well seeing as most here have a build thread and it seems to help keep progress up and get opinions and ideas going its time for mine. :eek1:
So I bought my 89 K5 for my 18th birthday after looking over alot of others that were not fuel injected or in as nice of shape for around $5000

So I was happy with my new truck and daily drove it everywhere which lead to the original 350 blowing a rod one day on the way to work.. So I dove into my first engine rebuild and went with a 355 long block and started cleaning up reusable parts like the intake and accessories. Had it back up and running working on it everyday after working for 10-12 hour days. Still remember that saturday morning when me and a friend stayed up most that night working in the garage sorting out final issues and taking it for a test drive after break-in at 5:30am :haha:
After about a year I had a set of true duals 2.5" pipes installed and hedman headers.

Well after a few good wheeling trips to go hunting and weekend fun I had blown up the factory gov lock in the rear 10 bolt so I opted for a Auburn posi unit. the 700-r4 was dying so figured since i replaced the engine how hard could a tranny be:doah: it wasn't to bad with the help of a friend and the rental of a tranny jack we had it at a local shop that day and told him to go hard on it and told him that its gonna be in a k5 with at least 35" tires. Well a week later i picked it up with all the goodies hardened sprag, bigger pump, heavy duty sunshell, shift kit lvl2, corvette servo...

Soon after I traded a buddy a built up computer system for his 14bolt FF and 10 bolt 8 lug with 4.10's

We totally rebuilt the front axle with all new bearings, premium ball joints, new u joints, warn premo hubs, and brakes. and sprayed some rustoleum black on em.
Bought the disk brake kit for the 14 form Ruff Stuff and still need to do that. Also bit the bullet and got a set of BFG mud terrain KM 35X12.50 on some steel 15X10's. Had lots of fun with it like this for a couple of years but always was wanted to lift it up to help clear the 35"s that i had to cut alot of fender to run.

So since I had other vehicles to drive I figured it was time to add a cam and intake to her and take it off the road to replace the rad support as it was cracked badly and once sent my battery into it during a hard stop. so for the winter in the small single car garage it went. That was back in January 2009 and been put off since I didn't have heat and then moved to a new place this novemeber with a 2 car garage. Russell and I just got it running a few weekends ago with his help and knowledge we had installed the new cam and timmed it up. The Break in was great :D nothing like the smell of fresh motor reving for 30 mins. :haha:
Went with the Edelbrock TBI cam and intake since its supposed to be computer friendly.

So now im ready to start lifting it and its gonna be a daily driver at times but mostly a toy to take hunting and go camping with so I got a ecobit shackle flip to install as well as some 56" springs for the rear which should net me around 5.5" i've been told. so just gonna have to get some 6" front springs and some zero rate's to help position the axle and level it out.

Hope to start working on the floor pan under the front seats soon as its cracked from stress and loose seat mounts. Got a nice pair of newer chevy seats with the seat belts on them going in. Also itching to start on the rear shackle flip and 56"s and the disk brake swap as well.

Looks like it's coming along nicely.

Be aware with the echobit flip can give you a really wacky pinion angle. It will point it way up with shackles any longer than stock. I ran 10* shims :eek1: for awhile and finally had my perches rewelded when I had the axle out for maint.

It's really nice and easy to put on, but drops the rear eye of the springs waay down too. I run DIY's USDR 7" shackles. I land on them once in awhile, but it just chips the paint :wink1:

Well a bit of an update, started gutting the interior to fix up the floor for new seats and fix some issues that i knew about and figured id pull up the back carpet to have a peek :eek1:

some pretty scary stuff so now time to fix it

Well a bit of an update, I have been slowly gathering parts for the lift and have my zero rates now:D But I'm still debating over going with 4" lift springs up front or 6" both would be with a zero rate set. I also still have the stock steering for now :doah: In the rear it will be 8 leaf 56"s with the Ecobit shackle flip and zero rate set, so around 6-7"
I also fixed up the floor under the front seats which were cracked with a new sheet of metal.
Anyways heres a few pictures from a run earlier in march.

Finally an update..

Well I started lifting the blazer back in march out in the new garage with a little heater going to keep it reasonable. Got the rear all bolted in with the 56" leafs and a zero rate to move the axle back a bit and a set of diy4x u bolt plates. The Echobit flip seems to be strong but now I need a longer shackle in the rear to get a better angle.
Then my ulcerative colitis wass acting up alot which lead me to a hospital stay for a week. When I got out I was on bed rest and was in no shape to wrench at all. Towards the end of July I've started to be on the mend after losing 60lbs. Anyways im alive now and able to venture outside again and am rebuilding my strength daily. So last weekend a good buddy of mine came over and helped me pound out the front suspension and get it back on its tires. Still need to order up brakes lines and do the rear disc swap but im going hunting this fall no matter what :woot:

Well thought that I would share some updates on the blazer. Slowly getting stuff done on it when im feeling well enough to be wrenching. Thanks to Kurt at Diy4x I got the rear shackle angle fixed up by running a set of his UDSR 6" shackles. Next on the list is brake lines and the rear disc brake swap. anyways heres the pics.

Looks like its time to do the SYE and go with a CV drive shaft too

Looks much better with the lift. I have an 89 also. I did basically the same lift height and love it. Nice toy.

Cool shackle mounts. Gonna have to check those out. Doing a mild build on a '90.

Well figured its time for a quick update on the project. Got a fire built under my but now! Dad's got a bull moose tag to fill as well as the usuall 2-4 deer tags end of September.
So since last time I installed a set of ORD SS braided brake lines and Rancho RS 5112 10.25" travel shocks up front after having to cut most of the old shock bolts to remove them. Remounted the Warn 10,000LBS winch with new hardware, hook, and battery connectors. New truck battery (800CCA), and oil change and fired it up first time in over a year.
Even took it out of the garage for the first since March of 2011 :woot: for a quick test drive :eek1: Had some driveline clunking going forward after the lift but no noise backing up so now im measuring for a new CV slip yoke driveshaft.
Any tips on measuring? Center yoke pinion to end of transfer case splined shaft right? Also looks like a quick clearance job on the front CV joint is needed to as it looked close to hitting at ride height 5" from stock.

Well another productive day around the garage, got some Pro Comp ES9000 14" travel shocks mounted up today and talked to the local driveline shop about how to measure for a new shaft that I plan to order tomorrow. Looks like my current angles are
Pinion: 20*
Driveline: 3*
Driveshaft slope: 20*
29 3/4" center cap to center cap with half the slip yoke in.
Seems a CV joint should run nicely?

When you call the driveshaft shop that will build the shaft for you they will tell you want measurements they want.

Well I'll be picking up the new cv shaft tomorrow along with a tbi gasket kit as my pod is leaking after having to remove it to remove a broken air cleaner stud. Also grinded the front cv shaft to get a few more degrees. I'll update tomorrow.

Well heres the update. Took the blazer hunting with my Dad and some friends up by Slave Lake for whitetail deer and a bull moose. The trip to the bush is about 290km from my front door to our camp and the blazer was a great trail truck going down cutlines that havent been driven down for years. Anyways heres some pics!
