My 89 K5 build

very nice, like the lift and return to unchopped up wheel arches. stance, and that front bumper combine to make that rig look pretty mean. might wanna go grab some rattle cans and make it all one color though

New rear bumper

So yesterday me and 2 friends mounted up a rear bumper on the blazer, it's made from channel at my friends work. For being built away from the truck and brought to it, it really fits pretty good. Anyways heres the pics!

Well time for another update and some questions.. So the blazer needs a safety inspection done for insurance for the hunting trip this fall again. My two issues are the stock push pull steering being maxed out after the lift, and the rear E brake cables being cut. So gonna have to get new cables and either jump into doing the crossover now or just get a dropped pitman arm for my steering box. I have the knuckles and tie rod for the crossover steering but still short the 2wd box and drag link. Think a dropped pitman arm is gonna cut it? will i need it with the crossover setup?

Also I picked up a warn 8274 from my uncle in great condition and want to run it as my rear winch on a trailer hitch mount. Anyone run this setup currently?

Is that a 4" lift? I quickly looked back through the thread but must have missed the number.

If a 4" lift you can get by with the raised steering arm that bolts to the drivers knuckle. This is an inexpensive push/pull steering correction solution that works fine for on road and mild trail use as well as most moderate wheeling. There are times when you get the truck all twisted up climbing over a rock or whatever where the suspension drooped out and short push/pull steering system will not allow the wheels to turn. I've done some pretty good crawling on the stock push/pull set up with the raised arm and have only gotten into a "no steer" situation a few times which resulted in backing up and picking a different line or dragging a tree down the side of the truck.

If a 6" lift you can combine the raised steering arm with a drop pitman arm to level out the drag link. Just avoid the offset (or drop) drag links that are out there on the market for push/pull steering.

I was gonna reciever mount a 8274, till I moved it around a couple times. I've since ditched that idea. Way more weight than I'd wanna carry when your stuck IMO

Nice build btw!!

Its roughly 5" lift up front with 4" springs and a zero rate. Locally we have a 4wd performance shop so i stopped in there and they have a steering drop arm for $100 don't if that's the route i should take. :dunno:

Yes the Warn 8274 is a heavy beast but i plan to install it in the hitch before i go wheeling so hopefully it wont be a issue.

I have noticed in most of the lift catalogs they list the raised steering arm as a "drop arm" or something similar. As long as it looks like this, it is what you are looking for.

Your stock arm should be much flatter in appearance.

Going hunting this weekend for roughly 2 weeks but ill be coming back home once or twice. Lucky its only 300 km door to camp. So I've been getting the blazer ready and installed the raised steering arm (what a pita cone washers are!) but in getting the drag link off the old arm will need a new drag link end but that's tomorrows priority. I still have 2 more things to work out one being install a new trailer hitch as my old one was damaged in an accident with a buckled side, and also fix my passenger side window as its stuck 4" from closed and its getting cold up here lol :doah:

So any recommendations on size of hitch bolts to get? Already have a nice painted hitch to install tomorrow.

I've tried searching for power window repair info but so far im thinking its the regulator but ill find out tomorrow. Any tips on working in there something about a spring?

Thanks guys
