My bobbed Suburban hatchback build.

That's exactly what I need. Are you going to put some short tubes between the rocker and the hoop? I've thought about doing what you did and maybe putting some expanded metal (or whatever you call that steel mesh stuff) on top of the gap so I can step there if I need to.

Your work looks awesome as always!

Decided to add some extra work

Slider tubes added for a little extra protection
Also added perforated steel to create running boards instead of just the tubes.

Ahhhh! I should have waited until your posting was finished! That's exactly what I was asking about.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner Mister....

Thanks for the complements!
Nice to hear from you again.

As usual I wanted it functional but a little out of the ordinary.
The perf is much stronger than the expanded metal and I only added 1 center tube as a brace.
Should be able to take a beating....:woot:

Hey no problem. Good to see that you and your wife are still wheelin' and buildin'. I really do like your slider ideas. Hopefully water and mud will drain away quicker and easier with your design. Are you going to paint them to match the body now?

It will be painted this weekend

Some more pics showing the amount of stick out.
They are about an inch out beyond the door at the widest point.
May come in handy through the tight trails in the bush.

Paint plans...???

I think I'll paint the inside section (rect. tube) with the blue and the boards with the silver "Hammer Tone" stuff that was suggested by Jess for Kelly's rock rings.

The silver will closely match the front and rear bumpers as well as the roof rack.

The expanded on the rack may get swapped out for the perf too.
Existing hole diameter in this material is perfect for a 1/4'' NC tap
Should be nice for my mounting brackets.
IE: jack, axe and shovel.

I may have missed it, but what size tubing did you go with? I couldn't quite tell in the picture.

I used 2 x 3 x 3/16 wall for the replacement rocker.
By plasma cutting approximately 5/8" margin away from the lip for the door seal the 3" width fits perfect for welding.
the cut is at the back edge of the back panel of the rocker if you look from underneath.
The round tube is 1.75" x 0.145 wall
Perf is 1/8" thick with 0.190 dia holes

That sounds perfect. Are you going to do any frame tie-ins at all?

Frame tie in's----absolutely

They will be built in this weekend before paint.
If you can see it in the pics from underneath, the factory rubber mounts have torn the bottoms off.
The damage is probably from the jump at the dunes that ktmoutfront was razing me about...
The big Burb did not land gracefully.

Nothing quite like seeing a tank fly.... lol great job on the sliders
