My build-DOWN thread...

Nice. I find I am more productive on car projects when they are in the garage. Also what is that round thing on the passenger fender on the 72?

Got the harness out of the truck and stripped. There was about two miles of electrical tape on it. and roughly 50 splices. So i'll be ordering lots of wire. Plan is to save anything worth saving, and then replace everything thats not. So i'll end up with probably a 75% new harness.

Even got the wife to help me get the wiring and connectors back out through the hole in the fire wall! Which was actually a huge help.

Were the splices done correctly? Sounds like you made the right decision on pulling it apart!

Correctly is up for debate. Would it have ran forever? Probably. Would it give me a warm fuzzy feeling? Not quite.

Un pinned the ecm connectors today and that was all I had time for. I'll start separating out the different circuits and see what is and isn't saveable next.

Got the harness all broke down. Doesn't look as scary this way right? Anyway, I determined that the guy who did this harness spliced/molested every single circuit except one. So with that, I'm just going to be ordering all new wire and pins for each connector. So my harness will be 100% new with the exception of the connector bodies themselves.

Good progress. Wouldn't it be easier to find an unmolested harness, and just modify as needed, rather than add new wire/pins to yours?

Probably. But it would cost about the same and this way it will be all new and done just the way I want.

I did find a company that would sell just the connectors all done up with 6ft of pig tail off each for $300 and include the ecm pins too. I'm going to ponder on just doing that. It will save me a **** ton of time.

What would you guys do with this bent power steering fitting? Its for the retun line. The problem is, it goes from the box, to the cooler. And its all factory crimped. Can i still just cut and splice it?

Is it leaking? If you've got the cash, replace it. One less thing to worry about on the road.

Its not leaking, the problem is i havent been able to find one. I guess i could get a junk yard one, but thats not warm and fuzzy.

I'll work on it. Im pretty sure he had his first.

Sure you can't order one on Rockauto?

Thats where i got my last round of lines, i think.
