i went into my favorite yard today to look at pickup cabs, and get an xj shaft, well i have aboot 3cabs to choose from! yay each for around $250 and rust free! (except surface rust on parts.

i was walking around and i found a 2x4 k5!? it was an 87+ because it had a tbi motor in it. i had no clue that these were available! unless somebody converted it...:screwy: but they also would have changed hte rear shafts because it was a 5lug not 6

ill getthe pics up as well as my shaft install wehn i come back inside.

i pulled back the rubber mats and its not bad just a little surface rust and 1 hole, and the cab corners. but for the truck its going on that dont matter too much :) haha

i liked this one because of the tilt front end but id have to finish the fenders...
kinda a hick way to do it but i guess it works...

Yeah, they made a some 2WD K5's all throughout the years, but the vast majority were 4WD.

2WD Chevys during the K5 period were 5 lug so that's not a swap.

6 cylinders were available too in K5's, and are probably more rare than 2WD's.

3onthetree (a member here) has a straight six K5 with a 3 on the tree trans that is in pretty good shape :D

i knew it was 5lug, what i meant was that if somebody swapped it from 4x4-2x4 the swapped the rear shafts to make it match.

its a shame that its just hanging out in the yard too...:( it had power everything. i may buy its body and put it on the k5frame...decisions, decisions.

There is one in the next town over from me. 70sor 80/81 model. Used to see more back home(so cal).

The TBI motor is a swap, the last 2wd K5's were made in the early 80's, I want to say '81 or '82.

Interesting fact: when the first gen K5's were introduced in '69, they had a K5 fender emblem. They introduced the 2wd Blazer the next year, in '70, and it also had K5 fender emblems. This was also the first year of the GMC Jimmy, 2 or 4 wheel drive. Trucks of this vintage that do not have any of the fancier trim packages just wear C10 or C20 fender emblems, regardless of whether 4x4 or not. Confused yet?

Yup. 2WD Blazer/Jimmy stopped in '82, i.e. '83 and up were 4WD only.

mmmmmm a tilt front end! Could someone be thinking project. Dont show ryoken

this was the clip that i wanted for my mud truck build.

im not sure if ill get that clip or not buut im prolly going to get the front clip.

actually im not sure if it was tbi...i looked at teh valve covers and they had the center bolts so i ASSUMED that it was tbi (intake gone)

im not sure next time i go back ill look agian. i didnt get a pic but like i said it had quad lights, power everything. but ont he back corners it had the "Sierra clasisc" emblem which i thohgut was an early emblem:screwy:

Hey nice

the k5 had black panels...and they were kinda cut up sorry bro. and theres no other k5s in the local yards.

Nice gate hinges for the front clip hinge point.:screwy: Seems like a lot of rust to deal with unles you are going for the rust-bucket look. One thing that caught my eye is: are there a lot of focking snakes in those salvage yards. That place would scare the sh!t out of me.:eek1:
Hoby

haha...yeah there are prolly alot of snakes in there...i know the rust is kind of a killer...but the roofs are just surface rust the wire wheel would make em look fine again.

if your talking about the hood on the tilt front clip. i noticed that rust too...ugh im not sure if i wanna deal with that...haha

I see one everyday

Cause I own one:D also 82 was the last year of the 2wd k-5, so that motor was swapped in.

Ok Hijack on:

What is an XJ shaft? I have seen people here talking about them, and am wondering what they really are? I know they are the steering shaft from the column to the box, but are they just a shaft from a Jeep XJ or what?
