Ok so I'm picking up my first Dana 60 on saturday. I was planning on putting in a Dana 44 but found this 60 at a good price.:D I already built a 14 bolt that was goig to go in with the 44. DIY4x diff cover, ruff stuff disc brackets cadi calipers new rotors and studs, new bearings blah blab blah.

With all that being said the rear was nothing out of the ordinary for me...king pins are a differant story:confused: I've read the 60 bible over on pirate and aside from new brake componants what should I really replace to make sure this thing is on/offroad worthy? I'm only running 35's so i don't THINK i need 35 spline outers.

What do you guys think?

The kingpin rebuild kits for $50 per side are quite good and include everything. It's not that hard to do - unless you get a stubborn pin that doesn't want to come out. Even that is not usually mission impossible to budge out though. I think it would be worth doing the kingpin rebuild. Unless you know that front end was well taken care of and mostly saw road use, I would do the kingpins.

Thats a coincidence that I'm getting m first 60 on march 20th also. Mine is being delivered to a friends(KGBlazerfive) house while out with the Army. It is coming from another member who gave me a hell of a deal on it, plus a few other parts. Let me just say that our fellow members here are where it is at.
With out the Brotherhood I wouldn't have near the motivation to build my truck that I have now, nor the parts inventory!

I'm hoping to make it to BB10, hopefully the US Army cooperates...:doah:

When I got my 60, I went ahead and rebuilt the kingpins just to be on the safe side.

with a spare compressor...just in case:haha:

Yes.

But I somehow knew the old one was going to go...

Wait until you see my new plan B... I actually may get around to it for the Bash...

What kind of arm do I need for lift correction? I'm running 4" springs. I'd like to eventually do crossover but I'm sticking with stock steering for now.

Got it and was with one of my sales reps while we were in Denver for a meeting and the company he reps is part of Napa, which I knew about, but we got to talking about markups and margins and so on. Apparently the markup on most automotive is 50%+:eek1: and he thinks he can get me a DEEP Discount on a set of ARB's and get me them for cost:D We left our meeting in Denver and he went to Casper and I headed off to Craig CO so I won't know anything till next week but I have my fingers crossed!!

:waytogo:Poppin that D60 cherry are ya, Well good for you :D

I'm on my first 60 too. I haven't done the kingpins. I'll save those for later I think. I refurbished the hubs (bearings...seals...etc), put new pads on too. We'll see (haven't driven with it yet).

I have two 60s 1 in an 87 crew and 1 in an 86 reg cab long box both open. In the last week I just put in new king pins bearings, races, bearings, u-joints and lockouts in the 86 wasnt to bad. Happy it was done, test drove it to my parents down the block and the fuel pump went out! O-well thats life. Its an easy job to fix the fuel pump when you park one side of the truck down a steep ditch :D.
