my holley sniper story from the start --- UPDATE : the story END'S NOW !

I had time today to drain the engine coolant down and remove the sensor to test the resistance of the Holley supplied unit.

Ohms readings on 20K Ohm scale on digital Fluke meter and all three sensors in the shop and up to shop temp of 70°F tested on the tip of all three to verify the same temp with the IR temp gun.
Holley = 2.37 Ohm on 20K scale
TBI used #1 = 3.46 Ohm on 20K scale
TBI used #2 = 3.44 Ohm on 20K scale
Sorry, I always have a hard time moving the decimal point around in my head, was never good at it.

I did find this chart for the standard motor products tx3 to help test the sensor for resistance value to temperature in F & C -scale
Temperature Resistance
50° F (10° C) 5670 Ω
68° F (20° C) 3520 Ω
86° F (30° C) 2238 Ω
104° F (40° C) 1459 Ω
122° F (50° C) 973 Ω
140° F (60° C) 667 Ω
158° F (70° C) 467 Ω
176° F (80° C) 332 Ω
194° F (90° C) 241 Ω
212° F (100° C) 177 Ω

yes i know this info ....... i am not changing anything with my own money when they owe me a correct part to fix there crap part supplied in the kit . its the principle of the point now . i am not saying the sensor wont fix it but until i here from them or talk with summit racing on a warranty out of the unit for defects and quality i am not changing anything .

this is just info to help others make there own choice and spend there money as they wish .

That was actually the part number for the one on the Pro Flo 4 system...

Mine looked dead nuts, and Dave said his was reading what the temp was at the local airport and the IAT.
so 2 out of 2 is pretty solid

well i called summit racing today and got some eye opening info from the guy who talked with me .

here is the short pinpoints :
holley tech in the end of dec/all of jan is way behind every year . they just get so backed up ts crazy even summit get put on the wait list . so he said they will get back to me at some point ......
of the 3 brands holley sniper / fitech / edelbrock he gets 2-3 of each to 1 of edelbrock for problem help and warranty . and of them he said 90-95% is customer ordered the wrong stuff .
he did say the problems i am having with the sniper are all real popular points he hears a lot and also heavy out of the first batch or 2 that were sold and mine being ordered may/2017 kind of falls in to that area .
he did say at this point i need to deal with holley and if they say warranty is or replace it swap out they will stand behind it and take care of me .

so in short it looks like its a waiting game now . . . but there might be light at the end of the tunnel yet .

yet another problem now

zero tps signal %
zero iac single %
rpm = 1,800 rpm
engine full warm
throttle cable free and arm on unit all the way back on the stop screw NOT bound up or wedged open
yet you blip the throttle and back to normal .

also i noticed a tuning problem that i think is another bad design . heat soak of the intake air temp is huge and takes for ever to come down .

i took the truck out to the local tire store to get some tires fixed and she was up to full temp and doing fine in the 25*f temp today . intake air temp showed this . i was in the tire place around 30 min and then when i fired it up i know its going to be warm from heat soak but WOW 122*f and the part that blows my mind is i have a stock filter unit full closed no heat riser tube and the duct to the core support inlet in front of the rad area behind the grill . . . . i drove the truck over 1 mile and it was only down to 80*f and took almost 3 miles of driving to get back to close to outside temps .

i am by no means a tuning wizard or know all of the info but the little bit i do know this seems way off from a real system like even the oem units are with the sensor in the duct tube or filter box . how is the unit to mix air/fuel and blend them correctly when stuff like this is happening with wrong info ?

i need to write up a whole list of problems for this and list it here so i dont forget stuff as the list keeps growing . :doah::doah::doah:

The idle issue is related to the IAC. Usually have to cover the IAC with tape, start it, set the idle -50 from target with the screw and shut the truck off

Confirm it’s returning to the screw each time

Sounds like it’s a piece of shit. I’d rip it off, stuff it in a box and send it up their ass. Put a carb on it and be happy.

Yeah that seems to be the sweet spot

Someone told me 1406s like three, but I’m not the guy to ask
I've never had a problem with a Eddie with a factory pump. Only when I was running a Holley did I ever use a regulator. But that was with a Holley blue pump too.

back on track here please ! this is sniper problems not carb and regulator talk .

the iac has started acting up now creating weird idle rpm ranges in and out of park . the other day i had a 1850rpm idle in park after i come in from the street from doing some driving . truck was up to full temp for over 30 min time .

today i went to the store and the idle was up and down a bit 1 min 0% iac then blip throttle and 12-18% iac and stayed there for over 1 min . then blip again and back to 0% iac again but mid 900 rpm range .

i have done some digging on just youtube and found a LOT of units from the time i purchased mine having a lot of the same problems with ecu / some handheld / lot of iac problems / general problems . and almost all report back in coments showing that holley had them send it in and WOW the ecu was bad and replaced at no charge and problem solved ............ WHY HAVE I NEVER BEEN OFFERED THIS YET HOLLEY ? ? ?

1 guy even said they sent him a new iac valve . he removed the bad one that was broken and the 2nd one lasted 1 week or so . then the whole unit when it for repair .

1 guy listed he had problems at 200 miles and had to remove it and send it in for full repair .

the trail of bread crumbs is all leading to the door steps of problems but they still wont help some of us . . . .

yes i did . it was just a idea in general . i just do not want this thread derailed big time / or snippy jokes at this point in this thread . i wish i could go and edit out a lot of stuff in some threads to keep it more pin point and less chit chat .
