Yesterday we went to the dunes and I raced a 2004 Silverado SS 2 times. The first time it was too close to call so we raced a second time and the same happened so we called it a a tie. I think the SS model comes from the factory with the Vortech 6000 and supercharger. Except for headers I run a stock 454. Did I do OK, do I suck /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

I checked on the internet and saw that it has 345 horses which is a more more than the other pick-ups so I thought it might have a supercharger or something. I am sure my stock 454 doesn't have 345 horses so it must have been my lockers and tires that helped me keep up with him.

i've got and 8.1 in a 2001 hd and the it said it had 345hp and i ran a ss once and he got me off the line but i can back on him strong above 60 i would say that the k5 did very well /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

SS is kind of junk in my opinion. Well I guess not junk but Chevy is really lagging behind in the performance truck market with that as their entry.

Typical of GM anymore, throw SS on anything to sell it. FWD Impala SS, FWD Monte SS, etc.

The SS truck is pretty nice if you are looking for a street cruiser. Adding 60 HP, AWD, and good street tires gives it a pretty big advantage over a normal 1500 truck. At least it has some legitimate components unlike their Z71 trucks.

Did you try it on the street or pavement??? You have an advantage over the SS with off-road tires and lockers...

I am pretty sure the SS would beat me on the street, as I mentioned in a previous post he makes more power than me so as you mentioned my tires and lockers is what helped me keep up with him. Anyway, if my old 86 K5 can keep up with a $40,000 truck I guess I am happy with that.

My old boss has one of those SS's. It sure seemed like a pretty quick truck for its size. He absolutely smoked the secretary's Hemi Ram.

He asked me if I wanted to race, I told him "Sure, If I can pick the track..." /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

What I want to know is what the heck was the guy doing with an SS in the dunes? It's a street truck.

Oh and also, when I'm finished installing my engine and trans, I'll run you in the dunes anytime. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Guess you havent heard of the Joe Gibbs Silverado yet.

Hi James, if you ever come down to Rosarito let's hook up and have some fun in the dunes. Good luck with the install. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I have and I want one. But that is Joe Gibbs not GM. Thats like saying a Lingenfelter(sp?) 427 twin turbo Corvette is factory GM cause you can go out and buy one from Lingenfelter.

As soon as my Blazer is done I should be in the dunes quite a bit. I've never been runnin down south but it sounds like fun.
