My new ride-2003 2500HD, LB7, ZF-6

He has ADHD.
Well kinda but it ended up being a bad purchase. It was going to need injectors and I wasn't happy with the size of the rear seating compared to my old superduty. I shouldn't have bought it but I drove like 5 hrs to go check it out and it turned into a big mess and I ended up buying it anyway.

Perfect example on why all trucks should be a regular cab. As GOD intended.

Gotcha...thats a bummer. How do you find out if the injectors are bad? I found a 1 owner 07 LBZ CCSB 4x4 with 300k for $15k at a local lot and am seeing if its a good buy.

Is 280k miles on an 01 LB7 too much? I know there's other variables like maintenance but as a general rule how long do these last?

That's not a good buy unless it had injectors done.
I would need to see some documentation to know if it was done. And even then I'm not sure I would trust the docs without checking it out firsthand. Which could be very expensive.
Injectors can run anywhere from 2500 from remans, to 8k for brand new one. Plus labor if you don't do it yourself.

My machinist it telling me he rebuilds Duramaxs with 500-600 thousand miles and doesn't even need to bore the engine.
Hones the cylinders and keep going.
Or course it's all depends on who owned it and how they cared for it.

But with a 250 thousand miles truck, you need to look at how the other aspects of the truck has been cared for as well.
I would look at that, if the whole truck was maintained well, one would think the engine was ok as well.

Personally I wouldn't worry about a dirtymax lasting 400-500 thousand

Couple years ago there was an article with high mileage trucks and there were a few 700,000 mile LBZ trucks out there. As Brian mentioned as long as it's been cared for I wouldn't worry about the engine as much. My sisters ex boyfriends truck came from Texas, had 656,000 on it last I knew with only normal wear and tear items replaced (injectors, turbo, water pump).

With a scan tool you can look at injector balance rates, you’d need to have it done by a diesel shop that knows what they’re looking at to make an educated decision. I’m not sure what the typical LBZ service life is on injectors, I know there were some older builds that had significant issues but I don’t think those apply to an LBZ.

You're thinking of the LB7. and even those injectors aren't too bad to do when they decide their time is up. The truck we took from Iowa to Utah for my suburban needed injectors. We did them the week before hand

A wife and four kids won't fit in a regular cab. Gotta be a 6 seater for me always.
Your wife doesn't have a vehicle?

That's my whole point. You shouldn't have to worry about a backseat in your truck. It's the wife's job to haul the kids around.
Hell, it can be a burb for all I care. But I wouldn't compromise my truck...

Yeah she's got a Yukon XL Denali. I need the truck room for camping, hunting, farm stuff, kids getting into rodeos, tons of activities when the whole family needs to go in the truck.

I’m with the CC club, I don’t like not being able to load everyone up at once!
