My "Official" Stepside Restoration Thread and LS Swap 2021

I always had pegged you for a bucket seat kinda guy.
I love buckets. In fact I went back a forth on it for a while. I even test fit the seats out of my Camaro. I think they looked good but I posted a poll on it and redoing the bench seat won out.

I do remember that now, can't say I would have let ck5 make the choice for me.
I am more of a factory bucket seat guy myself so 5 gen Camaro seat wouldn't work for me.
A set of red suburban buckets would look good in there.

CK5 didn't chose for me, it was my own choice. I'm glad I did it. I'm very happy with how the bench seat came out. I loved the Camaro buckets but it wasn't quite the right look and the high side bolsters made it harder to get in and out. I thought about Blazer buckets but they won't bolt in with the fuel tank hump in the floor. For some reason I assumed suburbans were the same but I guess they have the fuel tank hump too for some silly reason.

Just giving you a hard time. I know it was still your choice.
The bench looks great.

Suburbans have three bolts that match, and one mount that you can steal from the donor vehicle that needs to be welded to the floor. And one hole to drill.

Looks great! I haven't looked through the whole thread so I may have missed it, but what did you use to recover the bench seat? Did you do it or have a shop so it? It looks really nice

Wow I didn't realize it was that easy!

I had a local shop re-do the bench seat. They fixed the springs on the frame, all new foam, and the custom sewn seat cover. It's actually a darker red fabric than the factory color. He did a great job, I'd definitely go back to him.

Quoted for truth. I have yet to own a square with a dome light, someday though

Oh man I never realized what I was missing. It's not even wired to the doors, gotta turn the dimmer switch but it's so much nicer than just the floor light.

Sometimes it's the small things that make all the difference.

I got some LED light bulbs on clearance on Prime Day so I thought I'd toss them into the reverse lights since the regular bulbs don't really light up a whole lot behind me. Well the LEDs didn't really look right and the light basically went everywhere besides the ground behind me. So I put the regular bulbs back in, but before I did I had a crazy idea. I've seen where people spray the backside of their instrument cluster with chrome spray paint so it reflects the light off of the bulbs better. If it works for the gauges, why not for my taillights?

Next thing is the steering wheel. Ever since I bought the truck it's had a steering wheel cover on it and it was old even back then. I've always been afraid to remove it because I didn't know if the steering wheel was all gross or busted up under the cover. Well the cover finally started fully breaking down and so I figured what the hell lets see what the original is like.
The Verdict: After a thorough cleaning, It's actually in super good shape! I was pleasantly surprised. The steering wheel is such a large part of driving experience and I think I made the right move. It's the little things right?

Impressive how well that cleaned up! I really do like that style of steering wheel cover.

Great looking ride. This makes me miss my stepside

So nothing to update, she's been stored for the winter. But I have some spring time mods coming. First will be new wheels and tires and I need your help deciding which wheels to get. Please see my poll in the garage: https://ck5.com/forums/threads/wheels-for-my-k10.332867/
So I'm upgrading to 17" wheels so I can fit some bigger brakes. More specifically, H3 4 piston calipers up front with slip on rotors and dual piston calipers rear off of my '12 Silverado. Here's the front caliper brackets:

You ever have one of those moments where you're like I have 5 minutes let me knock something easy off the list?

I did the other day. So the position of my review mirror has been bugging me ever since I had the windshield put in after the cab was painted. I wanted to move the rear view mirror tab as it sat too low and my visor hit it. 5 minutes to pop it off and re glue it 2" over right?

WRONG

Ouch!

Well suck

I wish I had that epoxy. My kid head butted mine and it came off clean.

I've never had a rearview mirror hold like that. It took the first layer of glass off!

I decided to just glue it back and deal with replacing the windshield later.

I used JB weld on my F159 and it’s been on there for the last 3 years. Been over some very rough terrain in a rough riding truck too
