There aren't any holes in my door so I guess I'll have to drill for them? Also where did that nice piece of polished trim come from? Were your door panels originally Silverado trim? I'm thinking the Custom Deluxe panels are slightly different and things might be fitting different as a result.

Yes mine was Silverado trim and the panel are molded different. That trim piece came on the Silverado trim. You could maybe find some and add them to yours.
 
I think I'll return all the inserts and just try to find a set of original Silverado Trim Door Panels. This way it will all fit correctly and I don't have to cut up my good condition basic door panels.


I made some more progress on the interior. I've been wanting to finish the back wall of the cab with carpet since I installed the new carpet. However no one makes any carpet package to go up the back wall so I'll have to source some bulk carpeting. I still haven't figured out how I'll trim out the top edge of the carpet though. For now some more sound deadening will have to do. I had some leftover Dynamat and closed cell foam from the firewall so I figured I'd start there:

Future plans include getting rid of the el-cheapo speaker box and run a set of 6x9s in the corner like the factory did. I may also toss a small sub in a low-pro box back there too but I haven't figured that part out yet.
 
I feel your pain with the fuel filler. I had the joy of setting up dual tanks in a non-factory configuration. Wound up using ridged rubber fuel hose and several elbows to make both sides work.
 
Ya I guess stepsides with dual tanks is a rare option. :doah:

The passenger tank is supposed to be the primary tank and the driver is the auxiliary. I only have a driver's tank so my setup is unique.

Can't be that rare. My '82 parts rig was the same way. :dunno:

Is this something that is year-dependent?
 
My '83 is a conversion from fleet side, so I was improvising to get the dual tanks to work. And, using a '67 bed, there were no fillers there originally. You'll never find another one quite like mine. :)
 
Actually did a functional mod to the truck tonight.

I'm installing ORD's rear shock brace kit. I've faught cracks in the frame at the rear shock mounts since I've owned the truck. I figured it was time to reinforce them. Got the frame drilled and now the paint is drying on the brackets. I'll bolt them in tomorrow:

Finally got around to swapping the ORD engine cross member. I had the small block version in there for many years and it barely cleared the old 305's oil pan. When I upgraded to the 355 I built it was actually touching because it had a different oil pan. I got the big block version of the cross member second hand from @Babaganoosh like 2 years ago. It's about time that I got around to installing it :doah:

Out with the old and in with the new. I also repainted the pealing paint on the oil pan:

I really like those shock braces. Great idea.

You are the only person I know of to have the frame crack there though...

I guess it's a common enough problem that ORD came up with a brace. :dunno:

More like an LS swap :deal:

You talking about the cardboard on the floor? That's to catch oil drips. I do have an actual creeper that I'm laying on in the photo where you see my feet. Unfortunately I ran it over a few years ago and now one of the wheels doesn't roll. :doah:
