So you decided to keep it? That is the one with the box damage but otherwise in great shape right?

Yes, decided to keep it since I know it's history and starting over with a new rig would just been more work. The passenger side bed and rocker panel are both dented. Plus the paint is shot.

I'm also thinking this would be a good time to use these fenders I picked up from camsk5. They have already been trimmed and have a round bar welded into the gap to clean it up.

Since I'm going back to college this fall I just need a reliable rig to drive to work/school when the weather is too crappy for my motorcycle. Having a truck that can also get me out into the woods from time to time to relax is a bonus. It's not going to be a hardcore wheeler.

good start but be ready to trim the heck outta your fenders dude! but it looks like a nice rig

Already planned on it. I've seen pics of 38's on a stock CUCV with minimal trimming. So this shouldn't be too bad. I bought a 50 pack of demolition sawzall blades at Lowes in preparation for the trimming though :D

Use cutting wheels in an angle grinder. MUCH better.

Don't forget to adjust your steering stops to keep the tire off the drag link on right hand turns.

Actually had some time to work on my truck this weekend. Swapped out my fenders and I'll be working on installing the 2" lift springs/blocks next.

A couple of quick marks make aligning the hood so much easier :D

Alignment marks? Bah! As long as they're not physically rubbing (to bad) it's all good!

New fenders or just the old ones with some restoration and new paint?

I guess I forgot to post what I did with the fenders... I picked these up from CamsK5 a few years back when he was clearing out the projects for his cummins. He cut the fenders back to the inner fender and welded in a round bar to fill the gap making them pretty clean and almost purdy. If I cared, I could probably make them nice. Cam left them pretty much bare with a little bondo on them and they had been stored outside from time to time while I had them so there was some surface rust to remove. I sanded them down and shot them with some white primer.

Then here are the new bushing and ubolts for a set of 2" springs I got in a trade with a friend.

Finished with installing the 2" springs today. The springs I used had the same size eye at both ends and took a bushing with 9/16" bolts at both ends. I had to buy a standard kit and turn down 1/2 of the bushings to the correct OD. That however left me with a set of after market 6" shackles with 9/16" holes at both ends that didn't fit the frame bushing w/ 7/16" bolts so I redrilled at 5" to a 7/16" hole and installed everything.

Next step will be to install the 2" rear blocks and new ubolts, then the new shocks when they get here. I've also going to need to replace the exhaust donuts now. I think they were over due to begin with but I disconnected one side to work on the shackles and since I'm in there...

My shocks showed up today so I finished up the front end. Installed a new exhaust donut on the pass side. Then took a 5 lb sledge to the lower rear fender opening to make the last bit of clearance needed at full lock. Got the prerunner look going now...

More progress today... Installed the 2" lift blocks and trimmed the lower section off of the bed. I came in to grab dinner, then back out to torque down the new u-bolts and bolt on the tires.

Finished up last night but waited for this morning to snap some pics. I also threw the military front bumper on this morning before work.

Did you check your steering stops and if your driverside front tire can tag the drag link or not?

Only contact I had was a little on the back of the front fender opening... right where the round bar was welded in :doah: A little more on the back of the inner fender too. A 5 lb sledge took care of both area's for now. I'm sure I'll have to do more when I do a flex test though.

Huh, you'd think it'd tag the drag link. The bad part about that for me was it sounded like the rub on the fender liner that wasn't an issue so by the time I realized what was happening I needed a new drag link.
