Hi all,

I figured I needed a thread of my own to track my dumb decisions. This one isn't my first, and it definitely won't be my last:

Picked up this '71 Cadillac Eldorado. It's got the 500ci motor and power everything. The funny thing is, I had a 7 hour drive with trailer to reconsider. Obviously that didn't happen.

Cool old school barge of a car. Front wheel drive, right? Plans?

Yep, FWD... it'll stay on the parked trailer at my house for the next month or so, since mud season in my neighborhood can last through April.

It runs and drives, but has a couple of fluid leaks. Those will be fixed first. There's not much I can do for upgrades on it, perhaps a desmog, 4bbl carb and intake? It's rust-free, but the seats could use an overhaul, maybe leather? It could also use a new vinyl top.

I was afraid you were going to rape it for the motor or something, it sounds like you're going to keep it together as a driver - nice!

I gotta see what I can get it for. It’s a Plymouth, not sure of the year, but the shape and headlight trim is identical. It looks like this is a little longer with the small window behind the b-pillar.

The inside is rough, but I’d need to ambulance it up in there anyway. Or a blend with vanlifer utility so it can sell.

Not sure about the motor in there, but I have a 5.7 hemi looking for a home with some heritage.

The question that comes to mind, regarding that van is "are you single?"

Wanted a big ol Eldo every since I first saw Thunderbolt and Lightfoot....

And a Bofors gun lol

Weird, I was just looking up curb weights expecting these giants to weigh twice as much as my tiny Caddy. Instead, I learned the giant Eldorado is only 500lbs heavier than the new Challenger.

This one had a lot of little things and the cam was gone. Someone else did that swap and I have been fixing his reassembly fails and a bunch of other stuff.
Welded 2 cracks in the gas tank. Road debris hit it.
New engine mounts.
Rewelded the failed install of the right front frame horn from a previous accident repair.
Oil pump leak.
Now oil pan leak from previous work fail.
All new tune up components. Ran the plug wires correctly.
Fixed the distributor hold down stud to accept the 5/16 fine thread instead of a forced on course thread nut.
New radiator, hoses and belts.
All new vacuum lines.
I will need to adjust the valves as the rockers were making a lot of noise on fire up.
A bunch of electrical issues inside.
This guy already has a fortune in it. And I am piling on to it.
