gonefishin submitted a new Build:

My shop build

So I figured I would make a build thread for my shop.

If it belongs in another forum feel free to move it.

Here are the plans. 40x50x14, 5.5” thick slab (6.5” around lift), 12x18 beams, 2x2 concrete at each post, rebar on 12” centers, monorail and electric hoist, insulated, 3 insulated sectional doors, full bathroom, lift, ac, and possibly a loft one day.

I’ll start with dirt work pics and now the slab is done. I have a full bathroom plumed with a shower, toilet, 2 sinks, and a washing machine/dryer standup combo.

I’ll add pics as it progresses.

sounds amazing, ordinarily the only advice I would have to a guy building a shop is build it twice as big as what you had planned but 40x50 sounds plenty big. im jealous

So far the concrete turned out pretty good. Has a few blemishes, but I’m not too worried about it.

I went with 4500psi concrete instead of the regular 3000psi. It took something like 45 yards if I remember correctly.

I’ve been keeping it wet. Especially for the first 4 days after it was poured.

Funny thing I found a nail just under the surface and took a pic.

Here is the picture of the nail.

the builder is about 4 weeks away from starting the shop. I can’t wait! I’ll be having to wait a few months to buy doors. I’m trying to pay for the whole shop in cash and the doors add another 6k

So there has been some weather delays. He is supposed to start this coming week.

I am still planning out all the electrical in my head. I think I have it figured out. I am going to be running 125 amp service to it.

I still haven’t bought doors yet. I need to work a little more overtime to afford them. 6k for 3 doors is the cheapest price I have gotten so far. And after that i was told I live too far away for him to install them.

But look what finally showed up. Materials weighted 16,500 pounds.

I wanted to go 40x60, but with the door layout I want it didn’t fit right. But I’m having it built with load bearing ends so that it is really easy to knock out the back wall and add another 25’ on. Me and my builder discussed this and he said it will be no problem to do in a year or two... i want a 25’ deep lean to down the back 75’ wall too. So I’m planning to add that at the same time. It would give me almost 5000 sq ft under roof then.

So they have been on it a couple days now. They have some posts standing and all the posts and beams painted.

they guy cutting the beams with a torch does good work, but I don’t care for the welds one of the guys is doing.... I’ll get a pic of his crap welds. Me and the boss are going to talk about it

Did not realize you were building on the flat edge of the earth. How do they stay on the ladders leaning over like that?

Just harassing the noob. Looks good.

Dang! Kinda jelly! That’s gonna be an awesome shop!! I had my pad poured last week, waiting for my building to arrive, but much smaller!
24x40.

I’m going to try not to fill it up parking vehicles in it. I’ll be keeping the boat in there and whatever project I’m working on.

1 bay for the lift, 1 corner is my work area, and another corner for a paint booth.

they finished it while i was at the lake yesterday. They left a mess, but the building looks great
