ill post when i get the adapter should be in tomorrow and Thursday i pull it.
found a guy here in town $575 with converter but ill have him put a shift kit in the trans
maybe it will help it hold together better

I have that adapter. It works but not the greatest. Makes the jack really tall and can make it hard to roll the trans out if the trucks not high enough. Jack has to have a removable cup and the hole has to be big enough for the adapter to fit in.

I have the same floor jack/tranny adapter, got it at a flea market for 25 bucks, like new, used maybe twice!..as stated,it has the drawback of making the tranny sit up pretty high when the jack is lowered completely, and it takes some experimenting to figure out how high to jack the truck up and put the jack stands under it...if the truck is too high, the adapter wont reach the tranny, too low and you wont be able to drag the tranny and jack out from under it..

I ended up having to flop the tranny off the jack while it was still under the truck, then drag it out--and installing it that way sucked, its hard to bench press an automatic onto the adapter & jack with the truck a foot over your head,to get it on the adapter!..:doah:
If I had two floor jacks,it wouldn't have been a problem..

These tranny adapter things work good for doing clutches, when all you need to do is slide the tranny back some, then stab it back in...

ya it fits in the hole but the bolt wont fit under it so i took six metal zip ties to hold it in place, and ill have to jack the truck up a little to get the trans out.but it beats arm stronging the darn thing out,ill be by myself.ill post some pics tomorrow.

On my adapter only gravity holds it onto the jack saddle, there is no pin hole --never had any trouble with it wanting to come off once the tranny is on it...

It's nice to have two full sized floor jacks at times, however I've only had one since I started working on things--its a swap meet china special I bought back in the 80's,I have beat the crap out of that thing,it has never leaked, and if you overload it,it simply by-passes ,so it cant wound itself...

I had a Lincoln jack at work fold itself in half when I tried using it on a heavy truck in sand,I guess it didn't have that feature..oops!..:doah:...

ya i didn't think it would but doing that gave my mom some peace of mind that it wasn't going to squish me.

rotten burnt smell from the fluid

the fluid smells like rotten burnt eggs, when i put it back in ill do it separate
even with the trany jack it was a pita. but it is out and tomorrow off to the trany shop
also going to take the transfer case to the car wash and clean it before i put it back in

Don't forget to flush your lines while transmission is out and maybe installing a new rear main seal. Your getting a new converter in this rebuild correct?

That was quick!...:eek1:

I have removed one TH350 & NP205 still mated together,by bolting the crossmember to the jack adapter and unbolting the member..it sucked,I didn't realize how heavy a NP-205 is till I had to move it!..when I pulled the trans away from the engine the t-case dropped like an ingot and the bellhousing flew up and smashed into the floor, making for an interesting removal process,to say the least..:doah:

I have the same transfer case & adapter sitting in my garage, that I saved when I scrapped a 77 GMC K2500 I had for many years..came from a 72 K truck originally...looking back I should have just kept that truck and had the TH350 rebuilt,it lost reverse..the frame was getting real thin in places, but I could have patched it up..instead I parted it out, sold the 400 SB for 150 bucks (another dumb move, but I was desparate for cash),then the rest of it went to the scrapyard at 75 a ton,got 225 bucks for it..made me sick to see the guy squash it with the loader..:(.

I also have that adapter. On my K5 I can remove a tire and slide the tranny out with the bellhousing in the wheel well - no need to jack up the truck. On my stock Yukon, I lowered the tranny with that jack, then brought some lumber under the truck and "walked" the tranny off the jack and onto the lumber. From there, I could slide everything out. IIRC I had some jackstands to raise one side of the frame.

I only have one floor jack, but have a few scissor jacks that help with lining things up or having to move more than one thing at a time.

Will you be posting full teardown and re-build pictures? What problems was the unit having that led you to pull it?
