my TRAZER build thread...take a gander

Is the cap cast iron? Chopped pitman arm looking steering arms always scares me. It might be because theres only 1 pic but it just looks ghetto.
the cap and arm were originally a cast piece the arm was just cast on the other side of the cap ill get more pics for you

I mean it really dont matter to me as long as it was properly welding and such with preheating and all that good stuff. I just wouldnt want you to build such a sweet truck and then kill yourself because the buggered pitman arm to kingpin cap looking steering arm failed.

I'm not saying its half assed it just looked it from the pic.

Hey just a question. Why couldnt you 180* that cap? Not symmetrical?

What the deal with that axle anyway? I know its like an Eaton rear with a thirdmember and such but whats the deal with the outers? Whats the shaft diameter and such?

theyre closed ball knuckles with 8 lug outers similar to dana 44 outers the axle shafts are either the same as 44 or a tiny bit bigger and they have birfs

Looking good though. Any plans for leveling or you need to get a heavy ass bumper/winch before ya do anything?

im just gunna do a stinger and winch and then shackles in the back then ill prolly leave it

Looking good man....

x2 on the necked down shaft.... doesn't make any sense. Whats the point of larger splines if the main shaft is still small?

i was thinking about having shafts made to eliminate the birf i think i can fit 1350's in that ball just possibly. that would make this axle bad as a mother

The shaft is only as strong as it's minor diameter anyways which is usually the splines, measure it and see if it necks down more than the splined section. Aftermarket shafts that aren't necked down always break in the splines.

It does look like it necks down too much on the longer shaft though.

Nice build BTW

Makes sense.

Very cool build. Once i wreck my blazer body on the rocks, i want to do a pickup cab swap, with some type of flatbed cage type thing. Thanks for the inspiration. If you have any more pics of the truck please post them.

as an FYI......fine splines are stronger than course splines. the finer it is the more surface area to handle load.

Looking good, its come a long way. Are you going to make it to Moab? I am back living in Davis if you need any help or what not.
