A lot of times it was never a business. Or a poorly run business. Someone with hoarding instincts has a bit of money and likes old GM trucks.
"Don't take that to the scrapper, Ol' Bob will give you $200 for it!" and off it vanishes into the weeds.
Couple places around here like that. Gotta know someone to even find out who to talk to or how to find them. My buddy's been trying to find a long closed old 'yard supposedly somewhere around here with a few old AMC muscle cars in it covered in weeds.
Looked like lots of small stuff still useable in those pics. I'd love a rust free tailgate, tailgate hardware, etc. I have friends back home in Michigan who'd kill for a set of good shape mirrors, vent windows, a rear sliding window, and any number of other bits and pieces most of those trucks have.

Were there mirrors...I didn't notice...make a list and I can run back out there and see what he wants....none of those tailgates had the window in them so I couldn't use it for my Blazer.
There is another yard I want to go to soon...his inventory changes so fast because he is crushing and scrapping...there's almost always some 70's Chevy's but I seem to get there too late for what I am looking for.
I'm looking for a rust free pickup tailgate so I can go topless with The Blazer. I have one but it's a bit crusty. Probably just going to run it.
Went to another parts yard this morning...26 degrees...yeah...there was nothing....all the old trucks were gone...smashed, crushed and melted down...the only one on the whole yard was this 1962 C10....I snagged the fender badges and when I got home found out that they make these 
NOS is always preferrable to a re-pop. Good score, and will probably make you a few bucks on evilBay.
Couple other goodies on that rig...the pre 64 doors are the more valuable of the two styles, but more important is that appears to be a fleetside short bed. Not terribly common, and appears to be salvageable.

Went to two more today...didn't see much in the way of K5...found a crazy looking firetruck thing though...and a small boat for Ryoken
glad the POS boat found a good home/tomb........
And another mint '74 GMC grill...

Chief you really should grab those mint GMC grille`s, I don`t think they are avail in repros. Lots of good parts, and trucks there, they pretty much crush them all up here.
I may go back next week and see what he wants...he was kind of an @$$...had two Blazers on his lot and said "No Parts off the Blazers"!!!
