After owning four prevuos CC Duramaxs and loved them all, I wanted to built my ultimate Duramax. With the emmision getting stricter (especally CA) I decided to buy a 06 LBZ so I can still get around all of the emission crap. I wanted to use a solid axle and run 37" tires.

Here is my new truck (gray) and my old one (red..my roomates truck know)

I used a Rock Krawler or Pure Performance PreRunner Kit for the front. It uses a late model AAM out of a dodge. I like the AAM axles because they still use alot of GMs design (14bolt). After only 10,000 miles and still making payment it was nerve racking cutting a perfectly good running truck.

Look at it this way. Maybe they wont want the truck back if you default on payments. :wink1:

What kit did you use to convert the hubs? I take it that it eliminated the unit bearing?
Seriously dude with the work you have shown so far you could do this kind of work for a living if what ever you do ever falls apart. You do top notch work.

I had to move the sway bar brackets forward. The pics I posted doesnot show it. I would really like to change out the sway bar to a curry or something like it. The stock sway bar has too much stiffness for a solid axle.

Thanks, I used the dynatrac hub conversion. I wanted to eliminate the front axle from spinning all the time. I actually was able to get the same fuel mileage with this, changing the gear from 3.73 to 4.56, and using a 80HP Live EFI tune.

If I was to do it again I would use a 2WD duramax and put a Atlas or Stak monster box in it. The tranfercase front output is very close the the side of the trans and you are limited to 1310 CV's. I am also considering a different CV from high angle...

I put a electric locker out of a Power wagon (Ebay) in the front while changing the gears, hubs and etc. Did not want to take it apart again...Also a few with the IFS brackets ripped out. The hardest part of the kit is cutting and grinding everything so it looks stock. I probably spent an entire day grinding.

Rear before and after. Upgrading the transfer case (pump housing) and installing a fixed yoke front output from six states.

I use this truck from just about everything. Our family (wife, 6 month old son and two dogs) travel back and forth between SE Washington and S California at least three time a year ~1000 miles each way. We have used it to haul my Jimmy all over the place 2 time to Moab from CA, pulls a trailer (boat and flatbed), and sometime we use it for camping. After doing all of this work I am very happy with it, but there is alway something to modify...

Youll notice that I changed wheels. I had to use the wheels off my Jimmy because the ProComp Night Chrome wheel started to peel after 3 months. They look great and I only washed them with soap and water. It was a pain in the a** to get the popular four wheel drive warehouse to warranty them. They would only give me in store credit. I decide after my experience with caoted rims to get the Walker Evan wheels that have the cast look with no coatings. To handle the loads of towing and the camper, I used firestone airbags with the manual leveling system. With the deaver springs as flexy as they are there was no way I was going to carry my heavy Lance camper. They do not make a kit for the GMC/Chevys with a 7" lift so I looked at my friends F250 and ordered a kit for a ford and modified it (flipped the brackets and incorporates adjustable bump stops). Since I had air on board I had to buy one of those 150 train horns. Well worth the money...
