My ultimate multipurpose Duramax

Super nice job! You do good work!

Unfortunately either this year or next you might to get dragged into the Diesel Smog depending on your VIN. As of Jan 1, 2010 all 1998 and newer light duty diesels will need to be smoged. :( does that rig have a GVW of 14,001 lbs? I think it might be close to that.

I'm not super current on the rules, but the smog for those older diesels isn't going to be that strict as far as i have learned. The main thing is it can't smoke at idle. You know how modd'd and messed up your diesel has to be to smoke noticeable at idle? Definitely read into it, but i think a lot of modd'd diesels will pass the "older model" smog standard.

Cory's right, your work rocks! I love that bracket you used to mount your control arms. Where did you get that?

You are correct, it is a visual inspection for emissions devices, OBD2 test to ensure no trouble codes, and a visible smoke test at idle and during "snap test". The thing that might make things harder for some is the 3 "snap tests". They require 3 "snap tests" rapid accelerator application accelerate engine RPM between 2000 and 3000 RPM and a crank case smoke test.

All the details are here:

Granted, it is rather easy to pass but the initial gas Smog testing was fairly easy and did not include the roller tests for NOX emissions. now that it has been implemented I am afraid things will just get tougher. :(

Your work is ridiculously awesome!:D This beast is how GM should have made them, so fords and dodges werent the only ones with solid fronts.

Its like a Power Jimmax. sweet

That 2500HD is a nice rig! As far as the diesel smog requirements in Ca goes, if the OP is the original owner of the truck meaning that he bought it brand new, then the truck will be exempt from these requirements until the truck is 5 years old.

Nice looking work. I lost my 06 in april due to a repo...oilfield dried up.
If i ever buy another it will be an lbz and the same work you did to the
front as no matter what i did the IFS fell apart in the oil patch.

Alright I know mines an older truck and it'll never look as good but I HAVE to do a SAS now :doah:

I love it!

Is this a california thing? I have heard of this. Fortunetely, I have it registerd in washington state...

What a great rig, I agree this is the rig chevy/gmc should be producing.
Chevy has lost me on the new stuff. As soon as my k3500 is paid down/off I'll be going the dodge/ford route for nothing more than the front end alone.

It's nothing that can't be fixed. :D

True but then I'll have a solid axle gasser.... so then I'll want to drop a diesel in it and by the time I'm done I could just get a dodge/ford diesel and be done. Trust me I've thought about it.... a lot. :)

yep! passed in 2007 and goes into effect this year with even VIN numbers getting the first notice this year and odd VIN numbers getting the notice next year.

There is a reason I have a jimmy and a blazer and both are 1973's :doah:

Doesn't the AAM axle allow you to keep the abs and all that stuff on the front?

Yes it does. I want to do the same to my 2500HD with a bit less lift and run 35s. I'll prob wait till the 100k mile mark though.

Yes, all you need to do is reprogram the speedo and calibrate the ABS sensors so they are reading +/-2-5 mph (front to rear (rear is the transmission sensor)). I had to calibate the front to rear becasue of the gear change. Did the programing using EFI Live and a Tech II.
