Short and simple. lol ok I will try.... Was wondering if it were possible to add an overdrive after yer transfer case for use in 2wd. I was thinking 203/205 doubler with an overdrive for use in 2wd only for more top end. :waytogo:

Well, sticking an overdrive on after the doubler would certainly tend to eliminate drive shaft vibration........
If its solid transfer cases all the way back, then you can't have drive shaft vibration without a drive shaft.........

And it might just work. But, it would probably be easier to get a transmission with an overdrive built in.........
As long as the transfer cases will shift to 1:1 in high, it would not matter which side of them the OD was.......

Gear vendors makes an after market Od system that has proven to hold 1000 hp, might look at it and see if it can be used for what you want.

Gear vendors would work. I have one behind my th400 and a 406 sbc on the other end, it is a 2wd truck though. The GV has some limitations but it is a good unit. I replaced my GV last fall. I found a broken part on the rear of it, after I had the rebuilt unit. I had well over 100k hard miles on it, so I just stuck the rebuilt one in. It ran me $1000 to exchange mine out. I did the swap at my uncles shop with a little help, so I saved money there. My brother and I originally put the GV in my truck in our driveway.

You can't engine brake while in overdrive. It will wear out the clutches for reverse. Down hill, I run 1st, 2nd, or 3rd direct. Uphill or flat I will run any overdrive combo. I have often made full throttle shifts into overdrive with an estimated 525 ft pounds of torque, no problems there. I ran a decent 383 engine with the GV for 7 or 8 years.

My uncle owns a trans shop. My th400 is built very well. The price of the 400 rebuild and a GV rebuild pretty much ends up being the same as a 4l80e build up or whatever overdrive trans the 7.3 fords had behind them. I have 6 gears vs. 4 with the OD trans.

If your trans and t case are good and you like them, a GV may work for you.

Was thinkin a 12v cummins very healthy read and need to reread and research it myself a magazine did twin turbo for reliability got 625hp and of course close to 1300 ft lb tq.... I'm not building necessarilly said motor, I have my research to do. Wanted 203/205 behind an nv4500. this all in a crew cab dually. may go C-70 doubled frame and 2 1/2 (duece & a 1/2) 10 wheel to put it on if I decide it needs it.... the OD was just an idea to get more top end having enough HP to keep going but slowed down by gearing. I am just trying to find more possibilities not trying to reinvent the wheel. :D

Do not ask the one wanting to go 120mph with his big, not rated for speed tires why he wants to do this. Instead ask yourself what kinda crunch sound would that make when hitting a zombie horde....

If you are wanting to go with such a large rear, why not just run a 2spd rearend? Just a thought.

There's a thread on Pirate that I've accidentally stumbled on a few times using Google. Think it was a Ford and he did it with a 203.

Good idea. I cannot recall it's been so long but would that be in the idea of adding to the overdrive of the transmission? or would that be just the same?

I am looking to when my transfers are in high, trans is in OD, to get a little more OD. This idea actually was derived from another discussion about dodge and transmission gearing. 2 trucks same motor, in theory same rears, different OD gearing was the end result as to why one truck topped out @ redline and the other walked away. I was like RIGHT! That's it..... hmmmm  more OD please!!! :waytogo:

I also need to look into the GV OD. Last night T-storms and @ a couple points my posts wouldn't go through. And while watching Hatfield's & McCoys (not having a single beer at all  honest! :waytogo:) I got frustrated and gave wifey back laptop lol

Just looked @ GV OD :waytogo: That's what I was thinkin I needed. Also love thier charts. I made a tranny spreadsheet. Not with GV OD in it lol So now I see on paper I can what a 465 with 3.42's can do with a 4500 runnin 4.56's :haha: OR I can go 4500/3.55/GV OD for the win! :waytogo:

Truck started of as ton/crew/dual 34" swampers legally inspected in Maine. But a C-70 has a lot bigger tire stock and frame hight.... so.... I could make a custom C-70 crew, or use an International crew losing my beloved squarebox look, prolly not gonna happpen I'm stubborn! So we will see.

I need to research more. Could end up with a monstrous beast something supernatural to crunch zombies under its tires :haha::waytogo::pimp:
