I have considered adding some members to support the overhang... but I probably won't end up doing it. If I want to beat on something with a bfh, its not like I can't use the other 12' of the bench for that. Its kind of a handy place to store something under that overhang and I may end up putting one of my bench grinders down there or something. Doesn't need to be super beefy, so long as I don't abuse it as if it was.
