Mystery wiring

As with most every older vehicle ive owned, this one has its fair share of mystery wires. I am now trying to chase many of them down since I have a color coded wiring diagram it is a bit easier, but I would like to run some of this past the masses anyway.


So I have been looking at these random wires and decided today to see where they go

They all wind up in the same loom and go through the firewall here

Then they go to this little guy (center screen) except the large red one goes to the ignition portion of the fuse block.

I guess my question becomes, since none of them appear to be hooked up at engine bay side, why not remove them?:dunno:

Also would these have been eliminated during a switch to HEI? Everything on this Jimmy works, lights, signals, dash lights radio, etc.....

As Brian says it is a relay. From reading other's posts it is the Transmission Control Spark relay for retarding the timing. An old requirement for emissions back in the day.

yup. You are safe to remove it.

The lower relay is the horn relay.
