my brother got permission from my dad to get anything he needed for his corvette from NAPA and put it on his tab. so my brother called me and asked what i might need.....what do you guys think would be good to have?

hmm probably should have added that....1984 stock k5, also have a set of 3/4 ton axles out of a k20. so far i'm getting a new tie rod for the dana 44, and i think a d60 spindle nut set so i have extras for my 14 bolt. maybe a remanned 350......haha.

nothing too expensive, don't want someone asking questions.

Prehaps you should ask your Dad if it is alright for you to put some parts on the tab as well?

Napa records all their sales, he might suspect something if you are buying stuff for a front axle on a chevy truck when he is supposed to be putting Corvette parts on it...

From my perspective, then, that's pretty damned generous of your dad...and you and your brother are set on taking advantage of his good will. Not cool.

i also should have mentioned that this commonplace and he would know about it, he gets a discount and wants us to take advantage of this discount. just curious as to what i should get that is reasonable while i am allowed to.

explain again?

your brother has a Vette, and you have an 84K5....

Dad said its ok for both of you to get what you want, or only your brother?

I guess if your double dipping on dads account (I) would want to know about it....

my dad said it was fine for my brother but it got extended to me as well for general maintenance stuff. my tie rod on the 44 is complete garbage, the ball joints are shot, major scaling, seems to have a curve to it, and the threads are almost nonexistant.

as long as he knows about it up front thats cool.

Should check wheel bearings/ seals/ lockout hubs(if equipped)/ rotors/ brakes also.

Pop the cover off the D44 and have a look at things in there. At minimum that will get you fresh gear lube in there, and you'll know the state of things.

yeah my dad loves chevy's. his first car was a first gen corvette that he bought his senior year of high school. since then he's owned one of every generation through the years except the two most recent.

i don't need much for my axles, i already bought new seals and new bearings for the front, the rear bearings were in great shape. i have 2 new rotors and 2 that have a little surface rust from sitting but will be fine with a little scuffing, i hope. also new brake pads and calipers for all 4 wheels. i could probably use brake lines but that can wait, i need to actually get this stuff together. the fluid does indeed need to be changed, i should probably get on that.

does the differential cover seal need to be anything specific, should i get a precut one? pretty new to all this jazz

I think you pretty much answered your own question. Get some d44 parts, I'd get some maintenance parts, wires, plugs, oil, filters, fuel lines, brakes, etc...my dad would regret the permission if it was granted to me and my POS truck.

haha alright i was thinking the same, i should get a spare set of plugs for when the time comes, diff fluid, cover seals, possibly a tie rod
