National Get together of K-5s (EAST Coast) July 2007 UPDATED 4-10-07!

Just checked out the tube doors , they look pretty slick . Best of all no west coast shipping charge just go and pick up!!! Great this means I get to spend more $ .

Yeap just one of the nice things they make. Man it is nice to have a east coaster making some nice stuff. For us and I am glad to have them on board with us for Summer Blaze. Has me thinking about tube doors for summer...

I like the front bumper on the GMC I can see a winch on it on my truck :D and did you see they also do Rhino Linings too!

On a sad note I lost a lot of email address due to computer crash. Could you PLEASE re-email me about coming.

Hey all.....

First off, the group I usually lead has cancelled their WV trip to help the event run smoothly. We will have everything from generators all the way to a makeshift shower there.

Secondly, as far as the food is concerned. Besides lunch & dinner on Saturday and lunch on Sunday, We will be offering basic breakfast goodies. We WILL have hot fresh brewed coffee, hot chocolate and fresh baked breakfast goods.

Third, we now have multiple guides for ALL levels of trails to keep the groups small enough to keep moving.

Fourth, I'll be in touch with some of the local establishments so they expect the business or possibility of needed parts, fuel, etc...

Fifth, it's possible we will have live entertainment Saturday evening. For the kids who come along (and maybe even some of us adults!), we might even have a face/body painter there too.

and lastly, for now.. I'm throwing a website together to put all the info you need in one place, rather than having to click through double digit worth of pages.

Thanks Shiprekd for all the hard ground work you are doing. We are trying hard to make this best event we can for ALL members and those who attend.

:waytogo: Let me get moved and settled in to the new house next weekend and then I should be able to free up some time to help out as needed. I have an idea for Friday, I'll bring my junk up and we could do a 1 day overhaulin'. :haha:

Chris - Send Metro an email. Eventually though I'll have a website up just for this event where you'll be able to get all the info on it. Will make life a ton easier on yas...

Wayne:

We're going to be up Rausch Creek this coming weekend. A group of us are meeting up with Bolt & Issac and going to go wheel'n. Going to talk to them and might take a run on some of the new trails like snakebite and the new way in to lake Christy. Going to grab a ton of photos and post them so everyone can see that Rausch creek means business.. LOL

LOL... yea, that vid doesn't do Rausch much justice.

RC is supposed to get several inches of rain this week so we're takin the video camera with us too. We'll get some footage and post it as well.

Now dog gone it RJ when I say put a rock under the wheel, I MEAN A ROCK!

I see a very muddy red jeep don't forget Ed! You ought to make Wayne drag his beast up and get it dirty...... and will you be doing the pit on the LEFT?

Yea I can see your truck like Witters in water. Don't drown it...
wittersmudpitDSC00464.jpg

Also a new trail is in the works From what Lynn posted "We also found a really neat run that can be cut down in the Quarry with almost no work at all - it's like 8 trees that need to come down and it'll be open. Here's a sneak preview...
DSC01040.JPG

I've already done the 5ft pit and made it through. Milkshake proved to be tougher but made it through it also.

Depending on the depth this weekend, I might make a run at froghole.

For those who don't know it is a water hole with a tree over it and I was told no one knows how this stuffed frog got way up in the tree over the hole. This is what witter told me. It sounds easy but it ain't and unless you had been through the Frog hole you had better sleep in and bring a rabbits foot along, leave a pint o blood at the gate :D

FrogHole is located on trail 2 which is a Blue trail. The pic below is facing towards a green trail that passes thru 2

FrogHole is in the pic below. It is the "puddle" on the left. Look in the tree above the Exterra. That's where the stuffed frog was placed.

OK in response to some questions. Here is a FAQ

Where is Rausch Creek located? They are located between Tremont and Tower City, just off Pennsylvania Interstate 81, Exit 107. Take Exit 107, bear right onto 209 South, follow that into Joliett. Turn left at Joliett Street, then make an immediate left onto Main Street. Follow Main Street until you see their entrance on the right. If using an online map service, enter Joliett, PA as your destination.

What kind of camping areas do they have? The camping is primitive. Pack in and pack out what you need. They have a dual porta-potty at the main parking lot. There is room for tow rigs and trailer parking as well as for RV's and pop-ups. They have fire rings and there is plenty of firewood along the trails for our use. They are also making some more areas and might bring in extra ports potties for our event.

I want to visit, can I just show up anytime? Yes they are open year-round. From April 1st through November 30th, the office will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 8 to 10 a.m. for check in. If you wish to visit from Monday through Friday, then you must contact them so they can make arrangements to check-in your group and open the gate. From December 1st through March 31st, we are open on a reservation only basis.

THE MINIMUM GROUP SIZE IS TWO VEHICLES. When setting up a ride with your friends and fellow club members, it is advisable for one person in the group to be the official contact person. If everyone exchanges cell phone numbers with each other, than late arrivals can be dealt with in an orderly fashion. The contact person will be the one responsible to schedule the ride and to check-out at the end of the day with one of the officers. Keep in mind if one of the two vehicles breaks down, you cannot continue on alone, you will either have to call it a day or find another group to join.

What does making a reservation involve? The Off-Road Park is a non-profit organization and they do not have the means to have the park office staffed seven days a week. Therefore, during non-peak times they need to know in advance that your group wants to visit the park. they have three club officers who are available by e-mail and phone. Typically you will be able to reach or hear back from one of the officers within a day of your contact. All they need to know is that you are planning on coming to the park and approximately what time you expect to be there so they can make arrangements to open the gate and have your group checked-in. They do not require a deposit.

Does our group need a trail guide? It is not a requirement, but if your club is visiting for the first time, you may want to have a guide to show you around. However, the trails are well-marked and groups are provided with maps, and Rausch has found that most people are able to navigate themselves quite well on their own. If you wish to have a guide, ask for one when you schedule your visit. The cost for a trail guide is $135. We have this covered for our event.

What are the trails like? The trail network consists of existing forest roads and trails that were cut open by hand with the help of several 4wd clubs. The trails are marked with signs and maps are provided. The trails are rated green (easy), blue (intermediate), black (hard), and red (extreme). Several trails have many bypasses so that groups of different levels can run a trail together. If you like mud, check out the West property, several of the green-blue trails are very muddy. When you check your group in, speak to one of the club officers for help in picking trails to run. Their parking/staging area is located on the perimeter of the forest, so you will encounter trails of all levels within moments of your group leaving the parking area.

Do they ever close? YES they are closed for the two-week deer season which commences the Monday after Thanksgiving and re-open the second Sunday after that. They are closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Should I bring food? Yes. Food, snacks, beverages and water is advisable since you will be on the trails all day. Also remember to bring any prescription medicine.

Can I bring my sons Quad? NO they are not open to quads or dirt bikes! However there is a park just down the road.

Are Pets Allowed? Yes. Dogs should be kept on a leash.

Where can I stay overnight or stock up? The nearest gas station is at Exit 104 (An Exxon station, Ravine exit). There is a full service restaurant there and a quick-mart. The nearest full-service campgrounds can be found at Exit 104 (Echo Valley) or at Exit 112 (Camp-A-While). Hotels can be found at Exit 100. Days Inn at Jonestown, PA is offering us a discount. Talk to Tammy and tell here you are going to Rausch and are part of the Summer Blaze group.

If I have additional questions about the park, who do I contact?

Working on getting rid of rust right now too, found a couple small holes on the passenger side when i yanked out the carpet, Cant be falling through the floor at 60 mph..going to cut out the rust, rust bullet it, and patch them. Doing the whole outside of the truck and some other parts of it next spring with rust bullet..hope to use rust bullet as a spray in bed liner too for the interior(Loud as hell..no carpet..panels..)
