so.. I'm not really sure this tool has nearly the value in ANY other industry as it does mine, fixing boats... but for my job, I'm expecting it to be a huge help...

I come in the office this morn, and my boss hands me one of these things... the $19.99 one...

for a boat guy, this thing should be amazing for oil filters on gennies and many other situations that I've come across that are boat specific, stringers in the way, ceilings, etc..

I thought it was a pretty neat and innovative item... :bow:
 
Nope works extremely well for many many things.

PIG makes decent stuff too. we use their absorbent pads and rolls for minor spills at work....good stuff, I can see that being a time saver by not having to clean up a bunch of spilled oil.
 
Maybe I should get a value pack- I can't change my oil without ending up with half of it on the garage floor to save my life!
 
I work on Heavy Equipment & general auto repair on the side. I have one of the $40.00 ones. Don't remember where it came from. It is a handy little dude.
 
We have chunks of rain gutter we use at work when we can. But sometimes, you just have to accept that you're gonna make a huge mess and grab a ton of rags and a case of brake cleaner. A lot of our **** has a remote drain for the crankcase. But with all the hydraulics we deal with, making a mess is unavoidable, hence why we get brake cleaner, rags, and oil dry by the pallet.
 
I've been making them on an as needed bases for years out of cardboard... no clean up, trash when done.
 
Been useing them for years. The grey ones are glycol bias, and the white ones are oil biased. They skim oil off of water too.

*edit* ok I hope you're talking about the absorbent pads. Cause the link for me just brings up the main page. We use the big square pads by the 100 pack.
 
well, as a marine mechanic, we are kings of improvised funnels, drain pans, etc... it's the nature of the job... most often used are hacked up antifreeze gallons and such...

but I like the idea of this cause it holds shape.. you could bend a little tang at the end so it hangs on things, etc... we'll see...
 
See my edit...... I don't think we are talking about the same thing. I don't see anything about a funnel if that's what you mean.

That's the same as working on gensets and drilling rigs. It's like they block the engines up on the floor. And build the rig and frames around them.
 
the worst filters for us are gen sets. westerbeke, kohler, onan, etc... the filters are always recessed in.. usually ya just throw a couple rags in the catch pan and spin it off....

than of course ya have mercs upside down filters, but they are easy enough to deal with...

I thought like you that they are talking about the skimmer pads.
That is what that company is known for.
We use them here when we have wheeling events that cross water. We put the downstream to catch any oil that goes in the water.
I need to get some for my side yard so I don't have those rainbows on my driveway every time it rains.
