looking for some input on good water resistant or waterproof solid speakers that won’t break the bank...

I've always liked the Polk Marine series of speakers, though keep in mind that none of the speakers, Polk or otherwise, will be truly "waterproof". They're all water resistant at best, only designed to handle the occasional spritz of water as would be seen on the deck of a boat when swimmers climb aboard, or the family Fido shakes himself dry.

No speaker is intended to be hosed down, or dunked, like we might see in an off road environment.

The water that gets in past the weatherstrip beltline at base of the door glass normally ruins even the best waterproof speakers in a year or 2. GM did not expect the outer beltline to prevent water entering door interior which is why they put drains in bottoms of doors to let the water that gets in out.

Look up XTC baffles. There may be a bunch more like them now. But it is a foam enclosure that pushes right into the hole and then your speaker sets in it. That'll keep anything except full on submersion out.

I have some 6x9's in my van that have clear polyurethene cones that claimed to be "weatherproof"...not sure of the brand name, bought them decades ago at a flea market from a vendor who sold new auto stereo stuff..

Those baffles would protect the speakers, and may increase bass response too..

They do a decent job of increasing kick bass. I've used a set of the 6.5" ones before. They also keep the sound from resonating out through your door skin some.
