You hear talk about new lifters being machined wrong. If the problem is metallurgy or heat treat, that's hard to spot for the lay person, but if the issue is convex vs flat, can't that be inspected/measured enough to get pretty good confidence?
I was just thinking that whatever lifter GM is putting in their crate engines must be good to get through the warranty. A browse through the GMPP catalog shows there is almost nothing available in flat tappet now: https://www.chevrolet.com/performance-parts/crate-engines/small-block-engine/350-ho. Most of the SBC have roller cams and/or vortec heads.
i got nothin. havent worked on a ford in quite a while- buddy has a 302 in a house boat, but had the "whatever was already in it" polished when they rebuilt the motor. I will ask him if he knows anything
I sell more Howards than anything else because they are good quality and they are ground here in Wisconsin, they also only use US made lifters. I also sell many comp cams. I can also get Cam Motion, GM performance, Ford, Crower, Elgin, Isky, Lunati, Mopar, etc.
