Graft on a new half top, or go full convertable...that is some serious rot in a weird place!!

No ****...wow...how did it get that rusty!

what does the rest of the truck look like, is it even worth saving?

theres some surface rust on the roof and I am sure although i haven't checked where those holes are theres probably rust where the water has got down in there.. other than that the body is straight just paint and clear peeling in places.. I will get a pic of it when I get it back from the shop

Any idea how that happened? In Cali even!

Maybe lived near the coast and had a roof top antenna hole that leaked? Parked upside down in the surf for a few months? :p:

The good part is for most other K5's that is one of the only areas that is still solid when the rest has rusted to nothing, so aquiring a donor half cab should be pretty easy.

reminds me of the rot I used to have to fix on the Mack truck cab's back in the day...

So got the jimmy back from the shop Friday. Finally smogged and registered. I was able to locate a 1990 chevy blazer military vehicle from a buddy he wants $200 for it. and I guess it doesnt need to be smogged. I may do that. although he says the body is straight he said he shaved the firewall so I would have to figure out how I would hook my heater and everything else that goes on the firewall. Any ideas?

here is the pic I promised

I'd consider pulling the carpet out of your K5 to assess the rust situation as thoroughly as possible. If the rest is really rust free I'd pick up that diesel one, graft the half cab onto the white one and part the rest of the diesel to recoup the $200.
