Hello,

I am installing a new 4 inch Rough Country lift, I've got the drivers side done and the passenger springs mounted but the axle on the passenger side has moved rearward. I've tried to pull/push/swear it forward but it still seems as if I need about a half inch more forward for the center pin to fit in the spring perch.

I've got the rear shackles facing straight up/down and I just wanted to make sure this is the correct position. Any ideas for moving it forward? Is this a normal problem with a new lift?

Ratchet strap . Be safe though . Once bolted up , and tires on , and on the ground , it will settle in after driving , then you retorque the bolts .

I need a lift and am looking at the Rough Country - mostly because of price. Get back as to how it works out.

You didn't tighten up the u-bolts on the drivers side completely did you? If you did, go back and loosten them up and you should be able to get the axle slid into place fairly easy.

Is this the front axle? If it is. sometimes the slip yoke on the driveshaft gets gummed up with hardend grease and wont let the drive shaft slide enough foward to get the axle to the spring pin.
Disconnect the front drive line and try it.
If that is your problem you will have to pull the drive line and clean out the slip yoke.

Heya, Jason
Good luck with the lift. Take your time and work safely.
And keep us posted on the steering arm replacement if you do one.
I'm installing mine (4" Tuff Country) on Wensday.

Yup front axle, no ubolts installed yet. The driver side is just sitting in the correct position, I already broke a ratchet strap trying to move it forward. I had the strap attached from the axle to the front tow hook on the same side, maybe I just need some stronger straps?

Should I attach the strap to something else? Thanks for the help guys, my brother is coming over tomorrow so I can get some more muscle on it.

Thanks, on my truck it looks like a PIA to remove. 30 years of sitting there has to make it hard to remove. Removing the original ubolts was a piece of cake though, just had to get a long breaker bar on it.

Good luck with yours,

Jason

ETA: Forgot to add you need a impact wrench, 15/16 deep well, a long handled Torque wrench, various wrench's and sockets, a hammer or two, and several pry bars or large screw drivers to manipulate the springs. I used a lot of penetrating oil before I started any work, also get a set of 6 ton jack stands since they are generally taller than 2 ton jack stands. Jack the whole truck up higher than you think you will need since you'll need the play room. There's probably more that I forgot to add, anymore questions and just post them here.

Did you disconnect the driveshaft as Thunder suggested? Theres not much else to keep it from moving freely if the u-bolts aren't installed yet. I've never used a ratchet strap before.

My experience with two rough country lifts. The center pins are too big to fit into the front axle hole on the pass. side. Maybe even the driver side, I don't remember. We had to grind the center pin down a little to fit into the hole.

Haven't disconnected the front drive shaft yet, I'm not doing any work on it till tomorrow. It looks like I have plenty of movement but if I am not getting anywhere tomorrow I will disconnect it.

Before I actually bolted in the springs I checked and the center pin fit into the plate just fine. I got lucky that way I guess, right now I'm planning on picking up a mondo strap to move it forward.

When I installed my springs I had the same problem. I had to unbolt one side of the spring to get the center pin in. Then put the ubolts on and then bolt the spring back up. This way is safer than trying to pull on the axle. you dont want the truck to fall off the stands.

So I should disconnect one of the eye bolts and then install the ubolts? How am I going to stretch the spring enough for it to bolt up? To be honest that sounds alot harder than just pulling the axle, I'm having trouble visualizing how I would pull this off.

I just went out and took a look at it. I'm uploading pictures now but it seems like everything is off. My diffrential is rotated down and both center pins are off, previously I only had the passenger side not lined up.

New game plan: Disconnect front driveline and push rotate axle forward to line up both sides. I could really use the suggestions guys, thanks again.
