Need A Replacement Engine Suggestion

I have a rebuilt Mark IV 454 in my K5 that was done by a local machine shop. It runs great with Edelbrock ProFlo4 and a performer cam. If I were to do it again, I would rebuild the short block and get aftermarket aluminum heads. The heads are where the real power is made, my rebuilt stockers work fine but it could have been better. Hindsight is 20/20.

For an average run of the mill engine the mass rebuilders are okay, like was said no one leaves a good review, but when it blows up they are quick to leave a bad one….I’ve installed a lot of parts store engines over the years for people and I have seen a few with one oversize bore and the rest stock etc. Got to remember the mass rebuilders are in business to get engines out the door so they clean up and reuse what they can and machine what needs to be machined. For the average Joe the engine does what they need it to. For a get up and running situation I’d trust them, if I was going to add heads and a cam and go fast goodies you’re better off getting a local shop or one from GMPP. What about just pulling one out of wrecked truck? I’ve pulled a lot of junkyard engines over the years and put them in my stuff with nothing more than gaskets and they have gone thousands of miles.

another reason aftermarket heads are good is because the deck thickness is double that of stock heads, and most likely will never crack even when over heated a little.

DO NOT buy anything from monster transmission.
I think Matt from Matts Off Road Recovery had a Monster Transmission go bad in short order. Matt never said anything, but he had one of his vehicles have a trans go bad, and he got one (maybe for free) from Monster. About 7-months later he is doing a video about how he has to put a transmission in the same vehicle. :D

I have seen more bad reviews of monster than anything else I can think of.

I think I had to wait 4 months for the crate 350 I put in the C10.

Blueprint engines. Any flavor you like.

For the most part, I’ve heard good things about Blue Print. I did read a few negatives. What do you all think of Blue Print? They are high performance engines, and I don’t need that, but I’d rather pay up for a better engine than buy junk.

I’m leaning towards a Blue Print or a Chevrolet Performance (but none are available right now). I don’t want to have mine rebuilt. I want a warranty. My block has always been suspect.

I’ve only bought one blue print engine, and it was 7-8 yes ago, but it runs great to this day.
