Need advice on a Burb im buying

Even if you had to sink some $$$ into it its worth it, that thing is sweet, dont find nice stuff like that very often.

And TBI is hella simple. Like scott said, if it there and working, your're more than likely good.

It's also doubtful that anything has happened to the Burb in the last 3 1/2 months that would prevent it from passing a smog check that it just passed 3 1/2 months ago.

True,I just figure better safe than sorry. You know better than me how bad smog is in CA.

It's all about the money. And yet the state has none. Welcome to california
Our state spends so much it doesnt matter how much we make, They will always spend more than they have. Im eagerly awaiting our states collapse .

P.S this guys bein a real flake on settin up a time for me to get down there, I call him at 4 and we work out the details to avoid any unexpected suprises and i cover all my bases. We agree he will call me tonight since he wont know what time works tomorrow until after work tonight and i let him know ill wait for his call figuring you wouldnt not call someone who was waiting for it. 8:30 comes around and nothing so i call/text him letting him know i can be there as early as noon and still nothing. Even worse i gotta co-ordinate my schedule, buddys schedule and his schedule to get us all available at the same time im already going to have to take off work tomorrow, Call in sick or some bullshet.

Well you never know with the weather. A buddy of mine has been on call working 19 hour days. If he's in tree removal or pg&e type job could be hectic

The guy could just be annoyed by all the questions and request you have for him. You have to remember, the easier it is for the seller the happier they are. :deal:

Back to the original, when you find a screamin deal you HAVE to jump on it right then and there with as little grief for the seller as possible.

Must be, He just texted me back a few minutes ago. Said he just got home from a long day at work and hes all tied up with a long day of work tomorrow. Only day my co-driver and i are aviable is sunday to leave at 3:30 or anytime tuesday, Im letting him pick so we will see what he says.

if i was you, i'd set up sending him a 5-10% hold/deposit thru paypal. bcuz if someone local calls tomoro and says hey i've got 1800 if you sell it today, vs your 2000 next week, chances are if its been sitting this long he'll take the money just so his wife will quit bitching at him.
(that is, if he's anything like me. lol)

just remember, he doesnt know you, so to wait a week on someone you've never met, just based on a few phone conversations vs someone in the flesh with green bills, he might not be able to hold you to your word vs a for sure sale.

soemthing to think about.

We have agreed on saturday after spending what seems like weeks trying to get him to agree on a day to meet. If i didnt know better i would think hes trying to not sell it to me. He told me before agreeing on a time
1.The original door key broke and the copy isnt that good so i need to get a good door key done
Get a locksmith to make one from scratch or get a better copy of the copy, No big deal

2.The chassi's needs to be lubed as it squeaks on bumps
Take it to jiffy lube, No big deal

3.The belt squeaks a little since he put in the new alternator
Adjust the alternator or replace the belt, Probably serpentine for that year. Again not a big deal :dunno:

4.It hesitates shifting into reverse when its cold
My 76 k5 does the same thing, Although this could be an indicator it needs new u-joints since they likely havent been changed. Im hoping the tranny will last me another 20k or so, I think the 4l80's are built into the TBI computer so you have to have em to pass smog.

he's either trying to be realllllly honest or my dad thinks his wife is making him sell it and hes trying to convince me not to buy it :haha:

If he's any kinda decent guy, he's trying to be totally hotdog with you since your coming from a ways away to buy sight unseen. I sold my cummins to a dude from Kansas and since I told him everything and took plenty of vids and pictures from him there wasno surprises and no wtf conversations. Nobodywants a sourdeal oraconfrontation based ona misunderstanding or lack of detail.
Have fun dude. The weather for Saturday is supposed to suck balls. But sunday should be fun day

Agreed, Im going to call in sick on saturday to make this deal happen. If all goes well pics by saturday evening. It will be about 5 hours each way so ill get well aqauinted with its tendencys and quirks on the way back. Fortunately it will be in a nice comfy lookin captain style chair :waytogo:

Why do you need a tow rig?

Martin

Because just like everything here, everyone should have a D60 front, and everyone should tow their truck to trails.
Plus his dream is to race off road so he's planning on building a buggy and would need a tow rig to haul it around.
He's young and all his income is disposable, now is the time to enjoy his dreams, not when he gets married and has kids.
Although my advise would have been to just build a street legal capable rig and start getting some seat time and practice, he really thinks he's going to race now.
He shouldn't even be thinking about racing before he has 2-3 years of seat time on some really bad ass trails, but he's 18, I am 45.:dunno:

take my wheeling to the next level, I've done all that is possible with 33's and open difs at hollister hills.

I wont be doing any serious racing for 2-3 years at best. I've stated im 3-5 years off racing several times. Im going to start off running small stuff and wheeling the crap out of my local trails hollister hills and the rubicon of course.

As for starting out street legal i coulda done that but i already know im going to need a tow rig and trailer so i figured i might as well get em now that way i can enjoy The luxurys on the trails like internet,movies/videogames,mini fridge,On-board air/welder. Plus hardcore wheelers/street drivers do work but they are uncomftorable as shet, Not to mention if anything breaks its a SERIOUS EMERGENCY as you may or may not get home on time. I've had to drive people into town several times to get replacement parts because they didnt have a tow rig. The amount of options and luxurys afforded to you for something i need anyways, I couldnt justify waiting plus ive had a hard on for suburbans since i had to let my last one go.

but tell us how you really feel?
:haha::haha::waytogo:

:pimp:
Hey, I haven't said much since he started, everybody had been pounding him, now that most have let go, it's my turn.:thumb:

I can promise you no pounding has been going on :D. I feel that most everyone has been coming from a place of good intent so i take no offense to it. I try my best to not be a ignorant hard headed kid who thinks him self to be invincible and keep my mind open to new ideas and others opinions, But at the same time i do have to keep my eye on the prize and determine is ____ persons advice in-line with my goals.

More on topic, What should i be looking for in this thing besides any obvious sounds/feelings out of the drivetrain. Shoddy wiring and slipping gears that stands out well enough, but im looking for something subtle that is known for being a problem in this year/model. Iceman, Im willing to bet you've dissasembled enough of these to know their issues :D. Its going to be a 6 hour drive tomorrow both ways and im calling in sick so i'd like to make sure as well as can be done im getting a solid rig.

These rigs are pretty basic. Its hard to do a real thorough inspection in your situation. Look for major things. Leaks worn out components, stuff like that, that may cost you in the long run. Good running condition, easy start up, no slipping in the trans etc.

This truck is pretty much like your old blazers dead simple.

Any tow rig is going to cost you some money in upkeep and maintenance you just want to avoid any major costs up front.

Well i got her home with no issues. 720 miles or so total. Thing had no drivetrain issues. Cruised all the way home all 350 miles with no issue and pulled hills like nothing.
