How in the name of all that is holy do you get the front parking brake cable out? The service manual isn't much help. I was able to get it disconnected from the pedal, but can't get much further. Does it come up from the bottom? Will it push down once i bend the metal tines (if I can bend them. If anyone has done this I sure could use some advice.

You have to push the metal tines in while pushing that collar back through the hole. They can be a real bear.

It may go a bit easier if the cable is disconnected on both ends. IIRC the problem at this location is trying to get in there to compress all the tines. But if you can get one through, and rotate the cable to access the other ones, that may be the ticket.

I usually slip a box end wrench that fits real tight over the cable housing [1/2" or 9/16"?] over the cable and slide it down to compress the tines. Rotating the cable like dyeager535 said and pushing/pulling on the cable at the same time. I have also used a hose clamp to compress the tines also.

Thanks everyone for the help. It was invaluable. I finally got it out. The soluution was a bear. Unfortunately the backet that holds the end is really hard to get to. The tined end sits in a cup that can only be accessed on one side. Unfortunately that side has the fuse block in the way. Couldnt even get a stubby box end in with enough leverage. I did figure out a solution. I placed a 1/2" deep socket over the end, then I used the cable bracket on the end of the parking brake pedal to push the socket over the end. You have to pull up on the brake pedal with one hand while pulling down on the cable with the other, but it did work.

use a small hose clamp to squeeze the tines until it slip through then loosen hose clamp pull cable out. I know I'm late with this advise, save it for next time.
Thanks! Any advice on getting the new one in? I have a wire in place to pull with. Ive tried pulling up from the bottom but the end gets suck in the tight space between fender well and body. Should I be pulling from ibside the cab down?
