So I'm gonna give you the story and then ask for opinions.

I bought a 14BFF a while back but haven't installed it yet, the plan was to save up money for a D60 and re-gearing to 4.88's.

Yesterday I was driving home and started hearing a wierd noise, so I pulled over just to make sure I wasn't dragging something or had a flat. I didn't and pretty much knew what was wrong. I babied it home while it was whinning and sounding awful.

A couple months ago we were crawling under the truck and noticed on the underside of the bed right above the rear axle there was a thick layer of gear oil. Since I had the 14BFF I didn't want to spend much money on my old one. So I figured I could just keep refilling it as it leaked out till I could put in the new one. Well I guess I forgot lately :o

(My first priority before this was to get a new carburetor and intake manifod as the one I have now is like having a hamster in a wheel powering my truck when I hit any kind of incline.)

So heres where I need your oppinion.

A: Rear Axle
1. If its grinding is it too late to try and add gear oil and run it some more?
2. If not should I try and replace seals or something? How much does this cost? Is it hard to do? (I've got under $100 bucks in my truck account right now :doah:)
3. Should I just install the 14BFF (it has different gearing than the 10B front so I would'nt be able to 4x4 until I got my D60)

Second priority after getting the rear-end fixed is going to be carburetor and intake, then front axle and re-gearing.

1. yup.
2. you need to rebuild the diff. bearings and all.
3. yes, you will have a drivable truck and it will give you increased motivation you re-gear and get that d-60

uhh. just remebered that the 14BFF has different lug patter. So new wheels? or is there something else i can do?

or u could find another 10bolt with the correct gearing and throw it under the rear till u have enough to buy your 60 and regear both, i know sometimes u see em for free or $50 around here.
