Need driveline opinions...

The ord springs will settle. So don't get freaked out at the extra height. Mine too looked more like a 6" lift when I put them on.

I was told they will settle about an inch or so.

Do you have a pic of your front driveline? How are your pipes routed?

So duals all the way back? I haven't fitted it up yet, but it looks like there's also going to be interference with the shock next to the tank in the back. Did you have that?

Yah duals. I got supertrapps and they exit in front of the rear tires. Just less cluster to work around

And my shocks are a little bit customized. Post 55 in that same thread.

I didn't get a chance to call ORD today since I was busy at work. Not sure if they'll be in tomorrow. I did find the invoice for the springs though, with some info about the length of the springs.

For front it says total length of 48.5" with 23.5" front eye to center pin. I think factory setup is 47" long with the pin centered at 23.5"? Since shackle is in back, I think the front axle should be located as normal, no change.

For back it says 53.25" long, 26 5/8" front eye to center pin. Standard is 52" with center pin centered at 26"? If so, that's not much difference, so the idea that the axles are pushed out doesn't seem to hold up. Am I thinking about that right?

I'm assuming that making them longer than standard is a purposeful design choice that is compatible with factory spring mount locations.

Just took the truck for its first test drive, just slow around the neighborhood. Life is not good. Just the slightest acceleration causes some nasty vibration. Do the angles look THAT bad? Also, the steering is terrible. It's not loose exactly, more like it takes a lot of steering wheel input to get a change, or something. Is there something about a D60 that makes you HAVE to have crossover with a lift? I just have a drop steering arm right now. I also started hearing something like a grinding sound if I just lightly tapped the accelerator while driving slowly forward. It seemed like it would grind on the acceleration and deceleration.

I'm in this catch 22 where I can't fix my angles until the springs settle, but the springs will never settle if I can't drive. And it looks like I can't really drive with the angles as they are... :doah:

If anyone has any words of wisdom that would be great.

Here's the summary BTW: New CUCV 1-ton axles and ORD springs recently installed. ORD springs coming in more like 5-6" right now but they are expected to settle at least an inch. Had Rancho 4" springs before and everything was good with the angles/vibrations. Rear shaft is slip yoke CV.

I'm starting to get tired of messing with drivelines. Mines really close to going back to stock ride height with some 33's.

Mine's got a d60 up front. I'm using a dropped skyjacker pitman arm for steering correction. Truck has 4 inch skyjacker softride springs , ord fush kit with their shackles. And I rebuilt the kingpins. Truck drives better that when it was stock.

Hmm. Could be 4" vs. 6", or I have something messed up.

I too bought ORD springs for the front of my diesel truggy and they came in tall. I ended up needing a 6 degree shim in the front to bring my caster into spec and have the front driveshaft work. Have you talked to Stephen at ORD? He has been very helpful.

Yeah, I talked to him. The thought was that they would settle some with use, but I'm not a happy camper in the mean time. I'm feeling pretty demoralized right now. Did yours settle in? I really don't want a 5-6" lift, 4" is all I want.

I have not had the chance to break them in yet so I can't tell you. Stephen thought they would settle 3/4" to 1 inch or so. I asked for 5" and ended up with about 6". I suppose time will tell but I understand your frustration. They do ride well though I can tell you that.

Mine were like 1" high when they first went in - then settled to right where i had specified. Even if you can't drive, just leaving the weight of the vehicle on them will help break them in.

How long did it take, and did you have to off-road it and beat it up much? How much lift? I thought I really had to bounce it around to soften it up, but I'm also considering putting a trash can in the back and filling it with water (or something like that) to get it to squat for a while. Not sure how I'd squat the front.

Did you get rear springs, or just fronts?

You have to jump the truck. A few feet of air a few dozen times ought to do it. :D

I did fronts only and everything was settled before I even used 4WD much, so I had no driveline issues. I can tell you that what happens at any corner affects all 3. For example, a weak rear spring can make the front one look taller. When you ordered springs, how did you weigh the truck? Any chance your numbers were too high?
