I am helping my cousin install a 4" rough country lift for his grand cheeroke. I know its a jeep but I still need help.

The lift is basically just bigger and taller coil springs. We have the driver side on and all hooked up but now we have the other spring on but the top spring seat and bump stop is at an aqward angle and keeps catching the spring. I think the problem is that the suspension is bottomed out and my axle is pushed back because of the radius arms.

The only thing I can think of is disconnecting the 2 arms, moving the axle forward and lifting the axel up to seat the spring in place and mount the shock, linkage and then reconnecting the springs.

I will be seating here waiting on any help, we are in the middle of this and have about an hour of day;light left.

BTW, damn Jeeps!
thanks

I would think that you would need longer arms with a 4" lift, that could be a problem.

you can use sock length arms it just messes with the geometry something wicked, ahh the death wobble.

As for getting the spring in I had to compress the springs to get them in my friends xj, same suspension. You can usually rent the compressors at you local auto parts store.
good luck

jeep guys say that is about the crapyist lift for then. i had a guy drop off a jeep rubicon with full 4" junk country kit. i told him i would not install it as it was junk out of the box and missing parts. i couldnt even get the longer arms to work correctly. and there was no way to secure the threaded arms after thay were set.

but you will need to heat the tube for the bump stop and take a big sludge hammer and bend it back about 10*.

best stuff most jeep guys like is www.rustysoffroad.com

A 4" lift is about the max (realistically) for short arms. JKS makes a quality adjustable short arm that can help you with your angles. Kevin's Off-Road is a reputable dealer for Jeep parts and can help you out.

There are also some helpful tech articles on that site.

A good way to get your springs in is to disconnect the lower control arm. The front will drop a couple more inches. If you still need more room, disconnect the TRE on the passenger side. Use caution like always and hook everything back up ASAP.

You may want to look into an adjustable track bar as well if you haven't already. The axle will actually move an inch or so to one side IIRC causing some less than ideal handling characteristics. The adjustable trackbar will get you centered back up. Good luck with the lift.

He and his dad had already connected the longer arms. As for missing parts, the only thing we have encountered missing so far is some bolts, washers and nuts. Luckily we have been able to find replacements in the shop we are working out of.

I ended up droping the back side of the arm off and let it dangle, set the spring, shock and linkage in place but now I can't get the arm bac on. I think the axle moved back about 3 inches on the pass side. This evening I plan on jacking the entire heep higher in the air (IMO they did not get the heep high enough to begin with) take all the pressue off the axel and try to move it forward. If it does connect up, all we have to do is tighten everything up, mount the wheels, and drop it. Then we can start on the back.

We did get a coil compressor from Oreillys (sp) but answer me this. The compressor fits inside the spring to compress it and mount it. How do you then remove the compressor from the spring? There is no hole to pull it through and the long bolt will not fit through the spring.

My redneck solution, I took 3 ratchet tie downs, connected to outside of spring and worked the spring down, worked like a charm. I took pics to but didn't bringem with me to work.

Please tell me the back will be easier!

The back will be easier.

Use those ratchet straps to position your axle and to get the control arm bolt holes to line up. Use a floor jack to rotate the axle if you need to.

What size tire are they planning to use? Is it the V8 or I6?
