Ok, coming to work tonight I lost the little ear on the pinion and blew a cap off the rear joint in my Blazer. The problem is it is late, and there aren't any places I could replace this locally, and I have a slip yoke 205. The drive home is about 35 miles, can I zip tie a plastic bag over the end of the transfer to help keep the oil in and make the trip home? I realize I would then have to refill the transfer case, but would this work?

Any other suggestions to how I get my truck home to work on it?

It should be the stock 1310 I believe. Really pisses me off that I just replaced it a few weeks ago, then the ear disappears off the pinion.

I'm assuming you're talking about the ear on the Yoke that keeps the U-joint centered in the Yoke? If so do you have access to a welder at work? If you have access to a welder just install another U-joint and keep it to the side where the other ear is then put a nice weld blob on the side that's missing to get you home.

you could cut the end off a plastic pop bottle and duct tape it over the slip yoke to keep the T-case lube in.

Unfortunately I am a computer geek, so no welder here at work. Heck, I don't even know when I am going to have time to fix it, since tonight is backup night and that keeps me busy most of the night.

So what do you have at your disposal? Time to take inventory so we know what you have to work with...

That might work as well. We will see what Chaddy has available, since he is just up the road from my office.

Keep us posted, if Chaddy is nearby that is a good thing...

CK5 to the rescue!! lol

That's the bad thing, I don't even have any tools or parts with me. My tools are at home in the Astro I am working on, and the spare joint I had was put in a couple of weeks ago when money was tight and I lost a joint.

Chaddy has you covered. Just remember that this is only a temporary fix and you need to replace that pinion Yoke ASAP.

I will be running to the shop in the morning to swap it out. I guess I can go ahead and replace the pinion seal that has been leaking for a couple of weeks.

Just remember that 10/12/14 bolts all use a crush sleeve and to do the job correctly a NEW crush sleeve needs to be installed and the pinion bearing preload set to specs. Many people have cheated and just swapped a yoke and have gotten away with it but i'm just reminding you it isn't correct and "could" bite you in the A** if you're not careful.

I plan to just replace it, but for a very short period of time. I have a 14bsf at the house that needs to be swapped in, I just don't have it ready. I need to go through the 10b front that I have to replace ball joints and a couple of other things. I don't want to have 4.10 in the rear and 3.08 in the front. I guess I will just see how expensive it will be to do it the right way.

What a lucky night, my boss forgot to get my backup drives out of the safety deposit box and so I don't have to do backups tonight. I actually have some time to fix this issue.
