I'm sorry, I'm just the anti-snap on. No question their tools are nice, but having used many in my time, I've yet to use a single one that I felt was worth the money.

All the tool guys have a loyal following, but I find it pathetic what they sell that stuff for.

i understand and, well, we've been thru this before... :p: :D

i'm pretty certain someone else prolly makes roll pin punchs at a lower price... tho i will say alot of tools are getting up in the Snappy range of price.. thats why i don't buy Mac. if i'm gonna spend that kinda money, i'll buy Snappy.. even Craftsmen are getting up there.. and if a set of combo wrenchs are 80 from Craftsmen and 120 from snappy, i'll get the Snappy.. that performance edge is worth it to me when that extra clearance makes my job easier buried in a bildge..

there are certain tools that can't be touched by other brands... no socket or wrench compares to snappy's Flankdrive stuff. period.. screwdrivers, ratchets, etc too..

they may get the average weekend warrior by, but for day to day work beatings, there's no comparison. and unless your pushing them to limits daily, you'd have no idea.. i have alot of non Snappy stuff, but they are infrequently used tools..

since your doing alot of electrical work now, i assume, i'll give you an example.. their are a few decent brands of dykes, crimpers, etc that are decent, one that comes to mind are Kliens.. but my apprentice just bought a big bunch of assorted dikes, pliers, etc on a deal from the Mac guy. like 15 or 20 for $200. well, they suck. plain and simple.. he still constantly borrows my Snappys and Kleins..

its like Vise Grip brand products... go to a swap meet and buy some cheap imitations, they're garbage...

damn, we need a tool forum Steve...

my apologies to the original poster for wandering this one off topic, again...

that would be awsome, Im going to get one and could you also measure the hallow part of the pin b/c I need to get a smaller one to punch that screwdriver that broke off out

that would be great so I can order the 2 so I can have them for the weekend, so I can drive home from college again to work on that damn truck:surepal:

The OD is .225
As for the ID i can not measure that small with an ID caliper so i stuck a small drift in the hole and measured it out to .100, It was pretty loose though so you could go bigger. Not sure how much though.
Usually when i need a punch and the size needed is not in my roll away i will make one out of some G8 allthread or round stock. It will only work 1 or 2 times before it is bent but it gets the job done:D

thank you :D

I know beating this to death but is there a trick or anything to get that roll pin out I got the size you said readymix but it still gets lodge in there a little bit and doesnt want to come out, and that damn rollpin wont budge

I just remembered that the hole in the carrier on the ring gear side is smaller than the roll pin. That way the roll pin can only be hit out in one direction. The measurement of .250 is the diameter of the roll pin not the hole you need to drive it out from. I would measure it for you but my stock carrier has been drilled out for a larger roll pin.

I went and bought every punch that would fit in that hole and everyone still gets lodge in that hole and it takes every thing I have to pull it out, now I dont want to sound like an idiot about this (I know I am) but damn this sucks, when it get lodges in there do you guys think i sould keep on hitting it until hopefully punches through or dont hit it b/c Im never going to get it out

I wouldn't suggest hitting it more after it's stuck, the roll pin is spit along the side so it will spread open making it tighter.

Be sure you're going at it from the right direction, remember it will only come out on one side. The holes in the carrier are different sizes so be sure you're putting the punch into the smaller hole.

Are your punches pointed or do they have flat, blunt ends? Don't use a pointed one as it will only drive into the center of the pin (spreading it).

Im going the right way and the tips are flat, this is really pissing me off :angry1::angry1:

:D got it had to make my on punch got a 1/4 inch foot long and used the angle grinder to make it about 3/32 and hit it at the edges and got it to move, now is there anything else that holds that pin in or is that it and will I be able to get it out w/ out pulling the carrier ????

I got it thanks for your help readymix :waytogo: but now have to pull carrier, man Im retartded when it comes to this stuff

last question and Im done, I have 2 (look like retaining rings for the axle) that came w/ it and cant figure out were they go b/c they fit in the inner 2 parts of the lockrite but w/ them in place it seems the crosspin w/ come in contact w/ these "retainers" so do they not go in or what???
