Need help with rear brakes/parking brake

My parking brake isn't connected on my 85 K5. I was going to replace the rear brakes, and reconnect the parking brake, but I was curious as to brake upgrades. ANyone know of a common upgrade to the rear brakes? If I upgrade to say a rear disc brake, will the parking brake need to be changed as well?

Use the search feature and read up on it.

If your truck has the stock rear, it's a 10 bolt, and there are plenty of options around for converting them to disk. I guarantee you'll find posts mentioning parts/kits available for the 10 bolt, from many different sources.
