Need help with supercharging a 6.2

That pics awesome thanks, when I thought about it more last night and had a feeling that was what he was talking about. I just am not sure where I could set something up like that on my motor, its kinda crowded but I'll check today and see.
Yep that is exactly the idea, I never said it would be easy, but it might be feasable.
By the way how much did this setup set you back?
wanna see if it was worth it versus having gone with a turbo.

I went and looked at my motor and didn't see any where I could put it. The two places I could find was above the water pump but then to run a belt from there to the SC my radiator hose is completely in the way. And below my SC but then I have no idea how to get around my power steering pump.

I bought the SC for 2k but it was a complete SBC kit that my friend had and put almost no miles and it came with a bunch of extras. The crank pulley i got was 200 and the new SC pulley I got was 90 bucks. About 30 into different belts and under 20 in all the aluminum that I used for the plates. A lot of times you can search eBay and find just the SC for pretty cheap with out anything with it cause you pretty much have to custom fab everything anyways. So price and effort wise the turbo is probably a much better idea but I really like trying different things.

I want to say there's a company in Australia that makes superchargers for the 6.2/6.5L family. Think theirs mounts on top of the engine though.

If you can find them they may give you some ideas on setup.

I don't know about Australia but there is marine diesel in Sweden, they use lysholm twin screw style SC. Side note those motors are so bada** they have 250 and 300hp 6.5l SC motors. Back on topic now, I was thinking about calling Whipple and talking to them, cause they used to or still do I'm not sure, make a roots style blower for the humvee and some marine apps. But I don't know how they'll appreciate me asking them for help with a another companies SC.

Yeah I know what you mean about trying different things, I have been thinking about putting a screw type SC on my 6.2 because I want to wake up the engine in the low RPM, not the high ones where the TURBO usually starts, but now I see I need to know what I am getting first.
Maybe it's because it was made for a SBC that it's not doing well with the diesel.:dunno:
I don't know how bad it woud be to talk to WHIPPLE about other people's SC, I'd start by asking them how their's compares to the one you have and the fact you are not happy with this one and would like to know where theirs is better, and what not, and see if you can talk them into answering a few question about this one as a last effort before you quit and buy theirs.:thumb:

Oh that's a good way to go about asking whipple some ?s. If whipple cant help I think Lysholm makes "universal" screw type SC maybe they can help. If nothing else works my buddy tells me he has a Wonder bread truck sitting in his back yard with a 4bt in it. So we'll have to see whats the cheaper way to go.

How much does he want for the whole truck?
does it run good?

How are you checking for leaks? I understand you're using dish Siao and water, thats good. But what exactly are you doing? Where's the gauge tapped, leak in the gauge?

I think he's just running the engine with the soapy mix on and seing if he can find bubbles.
I agree he should pressurize the system and see if the system will hold any pressure.

I think he said 3k or so, and last I checked it was rebuilt and had 60k on it IIRC. Haven't heard it run so not sure but it looks pretty clean. And I think its a GMC built van too so I don't know if that means it has the Chevy cummins tranny adapter, which would be awesome.

I check for leaks by making the soapy mix then put the bubbly mix on all the joints where it would leak, like the rubber sleeve connector things. Not sure what there really called. Then I start the truck and look for bubbles.

The gauge is tapped into the the end of the SC right before it connects to the elbow. The pic shows the gauge is tapped

How do you pressurize the system and check it that way?

So I called Whipple and asked about their kit they had and the guy I was talking to kinda laughed at me because those kits haven't been available for the past 12 years. So he was no help.

By pressurizing the system to check do you mean checking for bubbles while the motor is running under boost?

Also I found a pulley off a bus alternator that is a little over 2" that I think I can machine to make it fit so that's my next step.

This is what you test a charge air cooler and intake system with.

Yea that bullet diesel set up looks sick, but damn I could do a lot of cool stuff with how much that kit costs.

I finally got around to getting the stuff to make a tester, Its defiantly not going to be as nice as demons. But some PVC piping a valve stem and a gauge hopefully will work well enough.

In the mean time when I was looking at my truck I noticed there is a bunch of belt dust on my tensioner plate, so I finally got around to ordering a 10 rib belt from the A.Z. and it should be here today. We'll see what difference that makes.

yeah if you are not getting enough traction on the pulley you would be roasting the belt and not getting enough pressure build up.

So after a crazy couple weeks at work I finally got to working on my truck. New ten rib belt, didn't change boost levels but there's no dust which is good. Built a pressure tester, nothing leaked, I kinda was hoping I had some leak that would explain it all but nothing. Got around to calling a local machine shop and found out that a custom pulley would cost me around 450 dollars to get made. So I did some looking and figure that a 1.5 pulley would about as small as I could go because it'd max out the SC at 2500rpm and be in its efficiency range at 2000rpm which is perfect.
My worry is a pulley that small even though its ten rib wide, how bad is that going to slip because there isn't a whole lotta surface contact going on? I also can't decide if 450 bucks is worth it to get something that is a toss up if its actually going to work. I've also been looking into turbo set ups and for a little more than what I'd pay for that one pulley, I think I could get a decent set up. What do you guys think?
