Need info on 99 24valve cummins ASAP

It replaces the banjo bolts with M12/JIC fittings. and replaces the tiny factory hardlines with much bigger fuel hose.

problems with that comes from the IP in a high demand situation (ie WOT or full fuel situation) with a weak lift pump, the IP out draws the supply starving it of fuel, the inherent problem there is that the IP is lubricated and cooled by excess fuel. The electronic module on it gets cooked first, the the barrel/plungers and cam ring heat up......galling occurs and the IP seizes solid. not all at once, but over time. thats why a fuel pressure guage is so important on a 24v vp44.

I'd like to know more of the differences between the 215/235/245 horse Cummins engines. The people at Edge told me that the box added the advertised horsepower on top of what you already had, regardless of where you start...but Banks claims percentage gains are less on higher output engines, but final power numbers will be that same. Also, tell me about the Hot Unlock code. I haven't purchased it, but I've thought about it. It seems to me that the limiting factory for me is #1 getting air into the engine, #2 shifting fast enough, #3 running out of rev's with 4.10 gears.

215HP engines are autos from late 98-00. Your Edge Juice would add 120HP to this ECM/engine.

235HP was on late 98-02 Manual equipped trucks with an NV4500 5 spd and '01-02 autos. Your Juice adds 120Hp to these engines, like my 2001 auto.

A 245HP rated engine is the High Output red headed step child for 2001-2002 with the 6 spd NV5600 only. Your Juice adds 90HP to this engine. Reason is because Cummins for some reason thought it would be just the coolest to use smaller injectors and a smaller pump plunger on HO motors, but just jack up the ECM programming to gain the 10HP/40ft lbs over S.O. motors. H.O's also have slightly higher compression than the other SO motors, thats why HO's sound slightly different, and almost a tad louder.
This means that if you have a 215/235 motor, electronic upgrades work great. If you have a 245HP engine, you are better off with mechanical HP, like different injectors. HO's LOVE bigger injectors because it really opens them up from the small factory sticks.

HOT code makes you go FAST, and get hot quick too. I don't really know what it would do to your truck with a standard, but at WOT with my auto it really helps that 3K RPM range.

Thanks alot for the help guys, i really appreciate it.

Alot of whats been said, mainly upgrades is total giberish to me. Diesel is a whole new thing to me.

Just relax a little. You are getting a $hit-ton of info thrown at you, while I can read all of this and understand it because I know what they are talking about, you may have a harder time with this being your diesel "cherry" and may just clutter you up more than doing good.

Don't worry about big line kits, big pumps....blah blah blah...

Just have the truck scanned for codes and the fuel pressure checked at the VP44.

Checking for a 53 block is also a good idea too.

Don't worry about fuel lines and all that jazz, if the stock lift pump is working and the VP44 seems to be in good shape, the stock fuel system is completely fine for a stock truck and you can deal with all of that stuff once you have established a healthy stocker and learn more.

Turns out the block is a #53. Its lived 237000 miles towing horse trailers and no telling what else its whole life, Maybe thats a good sign?

Im really unsure what to do now that i know it has this engine block. Great truck, but possible failure and lots of $$ in the future.

Unsure what to do, buy it and take care of it, or keep looking and be down a vehicle...

they tend to crack when towing with higher horsepower. I don't personally know anyone thats had one crack.
I own one and have a couple friends with 53 blocks, all are at or over 350 rwhp. none have cracked. but them none of us tow heavy either. but all flog the trucks well enough. I personally beat the black out of my truck. I mean hard.

its up too you. guys say walk away from a 53 block.........I don't say so. just know its a possibility and move on. or get something else. your call. It only around the '98-99 family that ever saw a 53 casting.

GO TO OPRAH!!

GO TO OPRAH!!

GO TO OPRAH!!!!

:D

Don't ask me why, but being a pud whacker and adding a G to the end of Cummins drives a diesel head insane.

It rates right up there when someone calls your K5 a Bronco...

Just accept you made a huge gear head booboo....and move on.:D

MMmmm.... it stretches well into the '00 year (granted, there isn't a lot of 2000 models on the road though) and has been known to pop up in a 2001 every once and a while. :doah:

I would almost have to agree with Demon on this though, there are a LOT of 53 blocks running around out there. Plus, you have to remember that horror stories are great about getting around the internet.

Ok, dude, it's like this. I know there is no G, and why it ended up there is probably because I was typing fast and didn't realize it got added, like using break, instead of brake.

So I added a freakin G .. who cares. Get the **** over it already you're making a whole lot of noise over nothing, and you're the one coming off as the panty waist. :deal: I played along at first for fun... now it's just getting old.

Find something a little crucial to pick your battles over. I could care less if someone calls my K5 a jeep or a Bronco.. I certainly don't follow them around harping in it.

Enjoy your CumminGs ... and go change the spark plugs. ;)

Ok, for you, I'll stop and think when I'm typing Cummins. :thumb:

But if you think it means we're going to taking showers together, into the wee hours of the morning.. think again. :deal:

:D

Going to talk to my cousin who knows a good amount about these trucks tomorrow, see what he thinks. And ill contact them before work tomorrow, im deffinatly going to take it to a shop to be looked at, just got to find a place that will do it and not charge an arm and a leg.

If i get the ok from my cousin and a shop, itll be sold by the weekend imo.:o

I would think thats a good idea.

Look on the bright side, if this one doesn't work out there are a lot of these trucks around.
