Need info on a TBI 427

emissions yes, frame twisting... no.

mudjunkie is pushin 1400 ft lbs of tq... if you want to find out about frame twisting drop him a line...

I highly doubt that he has 1400 ft. lbs torque even with a blown 540 engine. It is very hard to produce torque values that high. I had a 1300hp blown 468 that was only making 900ish ft. lbs. Anyway, that is here nor there. The fact that a 427 tall deck was only used in a HD truck is the reason why they cannot be installed into a LD truck, they have different emissions to abide by and the law in California anyway states that you may upgrade and engine but CANNOT put a HD engine into a LD truck.

I'm not concerned too much with it being a tall deck as I'm a Weiand dealer and can get anything from them (manifold or spacers).

Will the 427 make more torque then a 454?

I would guess the truck 427 would have more torque stock than the 454's of the same era that were in lighter duty trucks.

I can't really compare it to a 454 yet. but my tall deck has never let me down. only real compareing I can do is. I could lite the tires on the truck that the motor is came out of (48x21 with a 5 speed) in to third and I could lite the 40's on my blazer with a TH350 trans in high with 3.08.

So I guess in in closing. I have run this motor for 5 years now with no problems. When through 4 or 5 TH350's, I have ran it through mud holes at 4500 RPM's and the motor keeps on kicking.

BTW the motor might have govners in the TBI and in the distbuitor. At least mine did.

Ring Master, so you have one out of the HD trucks then? Does it have enough HP to get through the mud or is it mainly torque? Any info you can give will deffinitely help.

BTW.. did you keep the TBI on yours?

I have a 427 Tall deck out of a GMC 6000. but it is not TBI, mine is carb. I can not tell you for sure that if there is a TBI verison out there. all I can say is get the casting numbers from the guy that is the only way to know for sure.

Yes my 427 has good HP and TQ, I have had several people tell me that the truck gets off the line good. Jim the guy that built the frame compared it to a freinds built 355 by saying that Marvins (the freind) does not reacted as fast off the line. Here is another campare I have drug a 93 dodge D250 2 wheeldrive with a cummins with the rear tries locked up down a paved road.

Nope, I learned how unreliable word of mouth is

I called the shop that actually has the engine and they said it is a 366, blown head gasket, TBI, and they have been robbing parts off of it for other trucks so he has no idea what is left. He still wants $300 for it so I said I'll pass.
