I'm planning on installing a Detroit locker soon, has anyone had handling problems with them? Does anyone know if someone makes a spool for a 14 bolt? Thanks for any info! Jon

Check out the current issue of 4 Wheel & Off-road. There is an infomative article on these in it

I recently got a Detroit.I had worries of tire wear ,banging, and ratcheting sounds around corners but I wanted 100% lock up off road.It doesnt matter if one of the rear tires is off the ground both will still get power. If you are easy on the gas or coast around a corner you never know its there.Gas it durring a turn and it will chirp the tires. Now that I have one I would never have anything else.

thanks for the feedback ! I'm pretty sure no one makes a spool for theese rearends, but it doesn't hurt to ask. I guess the Detroit is like any other mod you do, you just have to adjust. Thanks again. Jon

I saw a post somewhere a while back stating that Cone Industries is making a spool for a 14 bolt. http://www.coneindustries.com/

All they have listed is for 40 Spline axles. I do not know if Moser, Dutchman, etc... could produce 40's for them, but they must be getting them somewhere. Did not mention price either. I just figured if I really wanted to be Locked all the time, I would fire up the Hobart to my POS Gov-loc carrier. Too bad Detroit did not make a retrofit for the Gov-Loc. Since the Gov is so easy to toast.

Ooopppssssssssssss. Just looked at the site again, and they make them for 46 spline, not 40.

It takes about 5 min to get used to it. That would be 5 min of each type of driving-city, mud, rocks, hiway, ect. No worries, you will love it. At least I do.
