Need MEFI4 bin/definition files for 5.3 or 6.0l Engine.

I'm running a MEFI4 PCM on my 5.3 and the calibration I have has been modified to feed the fuel needs of an 8.1L vs the 6.0L file it started out as. So needless to say it's running heavy on fuel. It runs pretty good to my surprise, but I need to dial the fuel rates back.

Since this is my first time getting into tuning, I'd feel better if I was starting out with a file that was closer to stock for the 5.3 and work up from there. That would be instead of trying to pull back the fuel/spark tables for what the 8.1 needed. I do have Tunerpro/scannerpro systems set up on a laptop to run so I'll be able to make the changes needed, but I can't find a BIN or Definition file so far to start with.

Please don't tell me to switch to a stock ECM vs the MEFI4 setup. This is what I got, it works and just needs dialed in. At this point in my project I can't swing making the changes to the harness and ECM. I have looked all over the web and hit dead ends at every corner. Even posting on tunerpro's forum with no productive results.

Any ideas?

Might need to find someone with a 5.3L boat to rip the binary from. I'm not sure where else you'd get it from?

Why not page someone that does this for a living............... Whats the service number on the MEFI?

Do you have a way to burn the BIN on the MEFI?

EDIT - Reread your post...... You will not find a way to tune MEFI for free. I can provide a file for free but not the def or software/hardware to burn it as I payed good money to be able to do that.

Thanks for the responses both. I've got MEFIBurn to load bin files in the ECM. I've got Scannerpro and tunerpro software to datalog and alter the bin file with. Problem I have is I'm clueless on some of the terminolgy used in Scannerpro and tunerpro or what the values call out to. By values, what's the right value to have and what readings really mean it's too high or too low.

It's not like I lack technical knowledge as I've started my career out at GM dealing in service and now running a GM dealer service department. I just lack the experience in actually changing values for a positive value or not when tuning. I got the theory and understanding down what needs to be done and when. But reading the logs and understanding what I'm looking at I might as well be reading japanese until I know what things should be.

Still that being said, I've dug around and found what looks to have been a stock LS1 5.7 bin file on my tuning laptop. I've loaded it and run it. So far mileage came up to 12 mpg, better but I know more is on the table.

I wasn't expecting anybody to burn it in for free. I should have mentioned I've got all the software to Datalog, tune and burn. I was looking for a stock bin file to start from and work from there. The problem is there, not many are using this combination. Tunerpro is well suited for MEFI4, but seems like most end up using Tunerpro for the earlier GM OBD1 TBI and other EFI platforms. So not many use them for the LS/GenIII EFI systems, hence a lack of bin files around the web. I can get them for TBI out the wazoo, hell even for friggen Syclone they made for like one year but no LS stuff.

If you can set up a base bin it would be awesome, just tell me what specs you need. If you need the bin I'm using right now I can shoot it your way. I do have some data logs I've recorded on a couple of drives with the latest file I have in there if you want them to review. I'm open to the help!

Since you found the 5.7 I'd start with that and log/tune from there.

Is it setup to run O2s?

As I said before, you will not find MEFI stuff online for free. Not many guys use it anymore as Delphi stopped making the ECMs and the ones that are have sky rocketed the price. Things are moving to MEFI 5,6 and 7. 7 being the E92 badass that does the DI engines.

I'm finding out the more I dig I'm probably going to have to switch to a stock ecm and harness if I want some longevity out of this setup. But for now it is what I got.

I really appreciate any help I can get while I run this system. I mean it, thank you!

Specs:
System runs one o2 sensor (right bank) and is batch fire instead of sequential. System inputs are cam, crank, ect, tps, map, iat sensors. Plus the one o2.
Engine has stock 5.3 coils and injectors with drive by cable throttle.

Right drivability is good, but it does hunt for idle at low speeds creeping in first gear. Same thing occurs if it is idling in park and I snap the throttle. The idle moves 200 rpm up and back to normal then back up again. It will stop if I shift to reverse or drive and back to park. I think I might have a tps failing at low throttle angles as we had issues right after we got it running and swapped in a used spare we had. Not sure if it was any better.
Let me know if you need more details and if you want me to email the bin file and logs I've run so far.

Is it wired for batch fire or just set that way?

It sounds like it just needs truly tuned to your rig.

I believe it is set up in the wiring for batch fire.

Shoot me a pm with your email and I'll send you what I got to look at.

Excellent. I'll pull the stuff off my tuning laptop and sent them out after I get out of the shop this afternoon.

Much appreciated.

Well, that tune sucks.....

Timing is horrible, like no power and lazy lazy. Closed loop and O2 feedback is disabled. There is a long list.

I'd buy/borrow a wide band, plumb it in and get it logging. You'll have to mod the ADX to do that. Then with proper logs its totally tune able.

Ok, so what to I need to mod in the ADX to make the wide band work? Where would be the best place to get the wide band O2 sensor? Plus will I have to modify the harness to make it work?

You will have to add the wideband to a 5v in port, like Oil Pressure or a different O2.... You can run MEFI with a wideband but you would really need to know what you are doing.

I use either AEM or Innovate Widebands.

I've got a spot on the other bank to run a 2nd O2 sensor. I'll have to go look at the harness and see if I have a second connector for an O2.

The wideband will not go straight to a connector. It will be a single 5v line that get assigned in the scanner and enabled in the tuner.

Thought I would share... This is how MEFI should run. It did not run like this when it came from the place that builds and tunes these to where all you have to do is Rotate a Key. Would not idle, ran like crap, picked up 60 hp at the tires... Tires..... It was engine dyno tuned by the supplier first and I still gained that much.

Its the one winning.....

Sounds great. Working on the wideband senario. I'll let you know when I get my hands on one.
