okay so.. my tranny went out on me a week or two ago.. I got a new tranny in... I start er up... and it sounds like I got a FKN knock!!!
I thought maybe it was the tranny knocking. because it didnt have enough tranny fluid.. I filled it up. checked engine oil.. both good.

I get under the truck. and I do NOT hear any type of knock. ping anything.. but I hear it up top... sounds like the rear of the block.
there is no shavings on my oil dipstick at all..

I drove it 7 miles.. didnt seem like it had a loss of power..

checked oil again.. after driving.. and no shavings.. but the "knock" is still there

well.. I drained some oil.. stuck some lucas in there.. It quieted down alot.. can barely hear it .. But it is def. not a rod/bearing knock..
I think it was a stuck lifter or something.. maybe from not running for a while..

Make sure you got your torque converter bolts tight. I had a weld break on a converter and it sounded like a rod coming through the block.

Of course if the Lucas made it quiet then it's something else. Could have been a stuck lifter

are you running the same converter as before the tranny swap? You could have a bad converter but as Big Pappa said check the bolts. I bolted in 700R4 converter and used the bolts from the old converter and they were about a 1/16 of an inch to long for the new converter so they did not tighten down all the way and the converter knocked bad. Replaced the bolts and all was well.
