Need pics - big tires with little lift

Do you mean Flex?? If so I get enough but I have trimmed alot more then in the pic I can stuff my front end and not rub. I also have rough contry springs. I will be tacking out a spring plate soon for a lil more flex.

I don't have any money right now.. I'm thinking about hacking the fenders and running my old axles and tires(38 TSLs). I don't need much up travel only 2-3inches. Can I get enough room for 38s hacking the fenders on my 1988 k5?
I'm worried about hitting the firewall..

Thats what I want.

How much uptravel are you getting? Do you think I can run 38's with no lift? Also did you have to move your front axle forward. Mine on 31's look closer to the fire wall than your 40's.

Here's a pic with 35s and no lift. Some trimming, only in the front. I would imagine with 38s you are going to need to widen the rear tubs and there wont be much of an inner fender in the front

38's and no lift? Could be done but it'd be a ton of trimming among other things. With the 4" lift (Rancho fronts) I had the diff moved forward 1 1/4" and full 'stuff' was just tickling the firewall...but not enough to be an issue. I had very soft rear springs and had to do this...

With the 6" Alcan's up front and rear I get more uptravel than is needed. I used a forklift to twist it up and had 51" under the rear tire with the other three tires still firmly on the ground. I was near the limits of my extended brakelines and the 14.5" travel shocks. The diff moves so much it misses the bumpstops and the tire ends up firmly stuffed into the firewall...even with the diff 1 1/2" forward.

I plan on swapping in some firmer 4" fronts again and altering my shackle flip so I can keep the alcan rears. Soft front springs aren't the hot set-up IMO...but I do drive mine on the street. Firmer fronts give you less clearance problems and a more stable handling truck. Soft rears are fine and can be used to get the flex you need.

Be prepared to carve a lot of sheetmetal though...you can see I have both front and rear trimmed aggressively. Right through the marker light up front and flush with the underside of the core support. Lower lift and you'll need to section part of the core support away and possibly have to do some sledgehammer massaging of the firewall area.

stock spring setup wont give you much flex at all. 4" prings and a shackle flip will give you a ton, w/o serious mods like x-over steering etc.

What is the best way to move my front axle up? ORD has a zero rate that can move it up a 1 1/2 I think.

thats the route I would go if you dont have the $ for a lift. zero-rates front and rear. Or you could redrill the perches

1" zero rates and a 2" body lift...plus lots of cutting.

38s no lift, they are 11 r16 tires actaully measure close to 38.5 but they are way narrow any wider and you would run into lots of problems. We wheeled it once he didn't rub much a little in the front on the firewall
