Just like the title says.

I am looking for some picturs of custome made rear bumpers for my K5.

I am heading to Blazer Bash and need rear tow points. The blazer only has the frame poking out the back right now.

Any help would be great.

Thanks.:waytogo:

I am looking for some myself for my '71. I am looking for some pretty much like these:

I can't find anywhere that makes them for '67 - '72 series. Can anyone advise if they are available anywhere? Here is my new ride that I got at the Carlisle truck show yesterday

www.diy4x.com but shipping can cost, but then you are in the metro area so not too far from a forward air or whatever its called.

Here are mine, bumpers custom built by a shop no longer in business but diy makes similar and hella strong.

Another vote for Diy4x, Kert is building me a trimmed down version of his rear Gauntlet bumper right now. :woot:

Thnaks for the pictures, ideas, and links!!!

I like the bumper in post #2 for the simplicity of it but the DIY 4x4 bumpers are nice:laugh:

V notched mine to install a 4" square tube (at 45* to frame) then made a boxed in section with nut welded to the back for the shackle mount. Only suck thing is the picture is in my sig line and not real awesome.

But since you live here, come over and see it...:pimp:

Bent72 I would love to see how you have it mounted. I will PM you when I am back in town (in NJ for work right now).

What part of town do you live in?

By Arvada Center. Warning tho, my beater is not all pretty like some of the others on here...and the cancer treatment was harsh

You are close to me...I live off 72nd and Carr.

If you look at my picturs you can see how tore up the body on my blazer is....dented everywhere.

Rear Bumper

31.jpg I threw this together pretty quick. I didn't want to be wider than the body, The top tube is right under my open tailgate, and the bottom tube was in a straight line from the factory bumper mounts.

32.jpg The recovery hooks are bolted to the frame.

JIMMY 011.jpg The little vertical posts prevent the strap from sliding off in case I need to get pulled directly sideways.
I picked up a license plate holder that flips up to pump gas & mounted it upside down.

JIMMY 158.jpg Later on I added a skid plate to protect the gas tank.

This is what the back of the blazer looks like now. The fuel tank is mounted in the bed...no skid plate needed. I also have the spare tire mounted...I am just looking to get some tow points installed for blazer bash but thought I would put a rear bumper on it while I was there. Also not looking to protect the rear tail lights....or lack of...and don't want steel sticking out the sides to get hung up on. The rear axel is also moved back about 6" so I can not just bolt on a bumper made for my frame (DIY 4x4 or ORD bumper)(bolt holes are covered by the shackle hangers).

I thought about just bolting on tow hooks to the frame but I don't know if that will be strong enough.

Thanks again for all the input :waytogo:

My concern would be that the frame was designed to have the bumper there as a crossmember. You're gonna be stressing it as it is, and putting recovery points there ... phoo.

If it were me, I'd at least put a piece of heavy square tube, like 2" x 1/4" wall, across the frame, and then attach your hooks there.

It could be just the width of the frame, i.e. not full-width, so it'd not be a full-on bumper, just something to reinforce the frame, act as a crossmember and a recovery point attachment.

A thought anyway.
