Ok need some opinions here. So for those that don't know I picked up a Crewcab 4x4 Dually. Truck already has a 350/T-400/ NP205. I'm going to swap my built 24v Cummins into it. NOW then, I want to keep an automatic for no other reason than this thing is becoming my primary tow rig and It will see some miles that I want to cruise. I have a full drivetrain from the 2000 2500 dodge Cummins truck.

Which option makes more sense:

A: 24v with the stock dodge 47RE trans. and adapt the NP205 to it for the Chevy truck. I can sue all the stock dodge wiring harness for the engine and trans. Transfer case will give me the speedo output. Engine and transmission have both been recently gone through and the stock trans has all the billet goodies.

B: Just use the 24v Cummins and adapt it to the 4L80E which will require a standalone box for the transmission but I feel like it's a stronger transmission and will readily adapt to the NP205. MUCH less wiring and harness work this way.

I’m assuming you mean using the stock dodge transmission for option A? I don’t have any experience first hand with the auto transmissions dodge was using but have always been told they were very problematic.

Built dodge trans might be ok. They did come with a 205 in the 12v flavor

I rebuilt the one that's in there now myself. They are actually ok after you add all the billet goodies to them and basically replace every part....which I did.

From the sounds of it B would sound like a little easier and possibly more reliable option for you. That would get my vote.

Call ats they have an Allison stand-alone controller.. problems solved. You’re welcome.. I’ll send you my address for beer.. good day!

In my mind the advantage to the 47re was that at least I had everything on the truck to use it. Even if I have to fight the wiring harness. I had already planned to use radiator, inter cooler, trans cooler, big fuel system....so yeah.

Use the 47re and just adapt the 205 to the back of it...from the scenario that seems like a no brainer to me. I had a full rebuild on my 47re last year with all the same billet goodies...and its seems to do great!

So the 47re is built? Use that. It's already built.

Also a dodge np205 behind a 727 will work. They have the miniscule 23 spline input. You will need the factory adaptor too.

Did all the goodies in that trans include the upgraded output shaft?

Billet output shaft, stage 3 valve body, full rebuild kit and triple billet converter....all from ATS.

Psshhh, heck yeah, run that tranny...will do just fine and make your life a lot easier since you have everything there in the truck to swap over...just figure out your t-case setup you want and go

Yeah it definitely needs a 205. I already fractured the stock transfer case and had to replace it. They just don't hold up to any hard use. This engine makes about 360hp at the wheels. You have to treat it with kid gloves. Especially in any mud or deep snow. It just won't take the torque. I don't want to have that issue moving the drivetrain into a truck that I plan to drive a LOT.

The 47re in stock form is actually strongrr than a 4l80e.
A built one is definitely the way to go.
I believe it will have the 29 spline output so you will need the 29 spline input for the 205.

47RE For the win, plus you will have hell getting any 4L80E converter to stall at a low enough RPM or the trans to shift at a low enough RPM to work well with the Cummins.

Did it change to 29 spline with the 24v?

I'm not super well versed in Cummins stuff

68rfe got the 29 spline in 07.5. 47 and 48 are 23 spline.
