Need some help 5.3 no start

Update: got everything back together including oil pan bolts, oil, coolant, and damper bolt. Put in a freshly charged battery and voila …. Nothing. I’m tired. I’m done for the night. I will revisit this tomorrow I feel very defeated. I’ll start again with fuel/spark. So on and so forth.

pop a new valve in there spring too, maybe do all the springs. Lap that new valve. Engine should have run. Going to suggest rechecking crank and cam sensor plugs, pretty much any other wiring disturbed while repairs were made. Fuses, and fuse links

I’m going to the buck yard in a few minutes to pull another head. Do you think I should just replace the valve or the whole head. I will not be getting it machined just new gasket with old head bolts.

So what do you guys think should I just swap a valve or the whole head!

There’s an 8.1 resource thread on this site
Just be done with the 5.3 and big block it!!! I wish, would if the truck wasn’t such a piece of garbage. The junk yard I go to has one every other week or so, I don’t think anyone ever pulls them. Everyone around here wants the 6.2s.

looking good. as for new valve or used head, that would depend on seat and guide if either of those were damaged then used head.

Looks like the new valve seated and should be good to go.

Everything is back together from top to bottom, including balancer bolt. Oil and coolant. Still won’t start. Even tried starting fluid but at least we know it’s not the valve or timing chain. I have a feeling I’m having a spark issue. I put in close to 14hrs today on this thing. Going to watch tv. I’ll start again tomorrow. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!!!!

I'm counting this as 1 vote that they are interference engines.

Keep at it, you'll get it. It just takes a lot of time when there are multiple issues together.
That’s funny, another vote from me aswell with the proof to show.

I would probably add if you’re idling when it happens maybe you have a chance. But if you’re going 50mph and at 1/4 throttle then you know what’s in front of you. Pull out your work light and lubricate your tools with your tears. Lol
