Im in the process of building my 89 k5, it has a 350 tbi with the 700r4, takin a little longer than I thought it would but have been running into a lot of problems and time issues

heres the info: bought the truck about 3 months ago and have put 5 inch skyjacker springs up front, right now im swapping out the axles for a 14boltff and dana 60, putting in 6 inch procomp springs in the rear

heres my questions: ive read a lot about extended driveshafts and seem to be different for every truck but will I need to get an extended one for the front, it fits fine now with the 10 bolt so I figure it will be fine with the dana 60, the rear I am currently doing and will be grinding and welding the the spring mounts over so they are in the right spot, do I need to get an extended driveshaft for the rear, I have already got the conversion u-joint

also i will be running 16.5 inch H1's and 38.5 in boggers

thanks for the help

According to this thread,

http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65182&highlight=14FF+bolt+swap+driveshaft+length

you shouldn't have to lengthen it. Some guys seem to think you may have to shorten it. With the amount of lift you're planning, I just don't know. Why are you going to run 5" springs in front and 6" in back? It may be level with no winch or anything on the front, but if you're planning on running a winch and heavy front bumper, it will probably sit nose-down. Maybe not though. Each vehicle is different.

If I were you and I were going to keep the 5" front springs, I would do a shackle flip in the rear and either keep the stock rear springs or maybe use some 2" lift springs if I had to. 6" shackles like those from DIY4X could be another leveling option. The shackle flip will also move your rear axle forward just a little. This may help if your driveshaft ends up being too short.

reason im doing 6 inch springs in the back is when I bought the truck it had blocks all around lift 4 inches, I bought the 5 inch front springs on a deal and 5 inch blocks for the rear but when i put it in the rear springs were sagged so much the front was sitting about 2-2.5 inches higher than the front so I got 6 inch springs for the back thinking it will be level and also when towing it will be level as well, and i actually do have a heavy duty front bumper on it now but no winch yet, from what ive read i have no clue if it will be the right length or not so i guess its going to be trial and error

That's pretty dangerous using jackstands on dirt. Especially without a 2x10 or something under them to spread the load.

My blazer had a 4in kit on it originally With a block in the rear I added a 4in shackel flip and and 8in front springs had to get the front shaft longer but the rear stil reached with plenty of slip.
That being said I dont know what was done to the rear shaft befor I got it because it is labeled with a local gear and axle company. So i dont know if the po had it lengthed when they put the 4in kit on or just ahd the joints replaced.

got it all bolted up today and the rear driveshaft is about 2 3/4 inches too short

getting a little bit of progress done, motor actually lost all oil pressure and ceased up on me, got another tbi motor from a 86 k5, yes they did make the tbi in the late 86's, only had 90,000 miles on it and this is where the truck stands right now, needs to be ready for Uwharrie in 5 days

That's a lot of work for just five days, but you can do it. If you can't get it finished, you could always just ride in the Jeep.
